  • Replacing the jackson bridge on my model 6

I did a search and didn't see any answers on this topic...

The jackson bridge on my model 6 is getting old and i was thinking of putting an original floyd rose on it. As it is it stays in tune very good....i can yank on it all day long it seems and it doesn't go out much if at all...unlike my other to bolt on guitars with OFRs...Anyways i was wondering if anyone has put an ofr on a model six and if it stays in tune just as good? I should be able to just swap the bridges themselves without changing the posts correct?

And also I am thinking of putting the ofr locking nut on it where the current locking piece is because it is poorly designed and the high e and b sometimes don't actually get locked etc...

If anyone can help me out with this i would be very greatful!!!

    Thanks

Sounds like you have a JT-6 trem.
Yes... you can swap it out with an OFR without changing the posts.
As for the nut, you don't have to change it, but if you want to, have a pro route it for a Floyd nut if you don't know how to do it yourself.

Read this too... lot's of useful info.

A cheaper option may be to take the locking plates out and check there's no groove worn in them from the strings. If that's the case, you can reverse the plate (to the non-worn side) and viola! Problem solved.

The Kahler after the nut lock is a very good unit and keeps the strings at the proper angle.Just inspect the pads if they have grooves you can polish them down enough to smooth the grooves out, that works pretty well.Or yuou can swap them around and try it.

          It's not a Kahler nut. It's Jackson's own JT-6 nut.

I've done the swap. The only problem I had was that the sustain block on the OFR was longer than the stock one. I had to hunt around for a shorter one to get the perfect fit. I don't remember the measurements, but measure your stock one and make sure whoever sells you the OFR sells you one with the same size block.
