    How cool is that??

walked into a guitar store today, spotted this, and bought it for all of 250 quid...totally spotless body and a great neck

quick qus tho - is it a 3dr (it has reverse headstock) or a model 5? i believe its a 3dr because it only has a bolt on neck...but i didn't think 3drs had dinky bodies and this has a 5 way selector with coil taps and stuff and a floyd recess...maybe a different year than i've seen before - i'm guessing 1988?

3DR is a dinky J-90c and J-100 pickup.Should have a 3 way unless the coil taps hve been done via the 5 way. Very cool great score. What logo does it have the guitar shaped or the small script of large script?
      Really? well screw Mark Twain.

its the old skool guitar shaped one - with an R next to the logo as oppposed to tm...no 314656...are u saying the 5 way might be a later addition? i've been trying to work out what the 2nd and 4th positions do...

Guitar shaped logo would be 89.Yeah its should have a 3way.There were a lot of transistion(sp) guitars old school logos with trem routes or JT-6 trems and a floyd style nut things like that.89 seems to be the year for this stuff.

wow okay..so perhaps the 5 way is a transition thing aswell...i wonder why they would do that or were they just using up the parts?...

is it possible that this might be an early charvel predator? just looked thru the gallery and saw this

according to some reviews on harmony central

it would fit the description - lots of crackle predators on there, 22 frets, 5 way selector, HS, bolt on neck reverse headstock...thoughts?

It's a 3DR. A Predator will have a JT-590 and a rear scallop at the neck joint. As far as the switch goes, my Model 7 has a 5 position switch with positions 2 & 4 jumpered to 1 & 5 so it acts as a 3-way. Pretty sure that's how it came from the factory, but that would also be the logical thing to do someone replaced a 3-way blade switch w/ a 5-way.

3DR was only produced in 1988. 1989 the Toothpaste (contemporary series)models came out.

It does. Its a model 3 with a dinky body and reverse headstock. Model 3 D R. I believe this was the first charvel import to have a Dinky body.
