  • Charvel Predator???

Can anyone tell me if Charvel made a predator that didn't have a reverse head stock and only had a three way switch and not a five?

I have a Jap Charvel I bought back in 92 at a pawn shop for $150.00

Looks just like the predator with the above exceptions.

Has a Licensed Floyd that's branded Jackson, Jackson Humbucker at the bridge and a Jackson single at the neck. Toothpaste logo. I can get a pic of it out here in a day or so if that would help.

    Thanks in advance

Do you mean it had a toggle switch rather than a 3-way blade switch? There are a couple of guitars with that pickup layout and a regular headstock. The 275 was one, but it had a full size strat body in '89 when it had that pickup config, and the Predator had a dinky body. The Fusion Deluxe was another, but it had 24 frets, which you didn't mention. Both had blade switches. Here are some catalog scans:

First off. Welcome to the board. It may be a 275. I have one and it has a standard neck.
I am a true ass set to this board.

It has a three way blade. It has the cut away at the neck on the back of the body like the predator. The bridhe pick up ia a J-90C... well was it has a EMG 81 in it now. Not sure what the neck Pick Up is. The neck is a dotted 22 fret. It's a Dinky body.

Sounds like a 275. Same specs as mine except mine is a full strat body. And now Sports a new fangled EVH finish.. lol

It looks like the 275 and has the same hardware. Must be what it is. But did they have the neck scallop like the predator?

              Thanks for the help guys

Interesting that it has the dinky body. Here's the 275 from '90 - 91, when they went to a dinky body:

                http://www.audiozone.dk/CatalogScans...ges/Page13.htm

Notice the pickups are completely different. 2 slanted stacked hums at the bridge, and a straight (not slanted) stacked hum at the neck. Also notice it has the single-locking JT-570 trem rather than the JT-6 that the '89 275 had, or the JT-590 the Predator & most other toothpaste Charvels had. Two possibilities come to mind: you either have a Predator with a swapped neck, or there may have been a transitional 275 in late '89 or early '90, which I kind of doubt. Which trem do you have on yours, JT-6 or JT-590? Pics of both are here:

                And welcome to the JCF!

This brings to mind my Predator. It has all of the Predator characteristics, except it has a 3-way blade instead of a 5-way blade. Of course, the blade is also installed backwards (towards the neck selects the bridge pickup) so I'm guessing it's an after-market switch.

In any case, I love the guitar. Super low action and awesome playability.
