  • "Price check, register three"!

A friend of mine bought a Charvel blot-on back in the early 90's. He's not really a player and he doesn't have a clue of what it is, or what he paid for it.

From what I was able to find on the web so far, it appears to be an import from 1992. The neck plate says Charvel, Fort Worth, TX, with a six digit serial number beginning with "2". The body is a Strat style, HSS pup configuration and a Kahler trem.

I don't think he ever played this guitar. Other than needing a good cleaning and set up, it's in new condition.

It actually plays like a dream! The finish on the back of the neck is like glass. In fact, the fit and finish overall is very impressive.

Anyone have any idea what these sold for back then. He wants to sell it, and being that he's a friend, I would like to give him a "fair amount" for it.

I'm going to clean it up and re-string it today. I'll post some pics when I'm done.

    Here are few preliminary pics.

That would be a Japan made 1986 Model 4 in cobalt blue with the JE1200 preamp system with non active pickups. Excellent guitars and they were around $800 list in the Charvel Brochure-

Prices on ebay can go from $250- $400 depending on condition.

    Welcome to the forum!

      Welcome to the forum!
WOW!!! Thanks for the warm welcome and timely response!

It's in real good shape and plays like a dream, and that was with snotty old strings on it. I'm re-stringing and setting it up right NOW! Like I said, I'm very, VERY impressed.

Report and better pics to follow!

Man, the neck is just UN-REAL!!!

I would gladly pay $350-$400 for a Model4 in like new condition. That would be a "fair amount" between friends.

Hang on to it and welcome to the forum.

          Thank you!

I just got off the phone with him and sealed the deal for $350.00!!! The best $350.00 I've ever spent on a guitar.

He was pretty happy with that offer and said that's really all he was hoping to get.

That's $350 well spent. Congrats on your new guitar and welcome to the forum - a word of warning though: you'll want more of both.

                      Thanks guys!!!

                      It's good to be here!

Can somebody give me the low down on the toggle switch positions? It seems that some combinations are "off".

                      AND... BTW...

I've been dyin' for a Jackson SL2H in natural for two years!

                        Okay, I'm an idiot!

It appears that the toggles turn each pup on/off!

Welcome, nice intro. The model series are addictive and collectable, I like them for the full size bodies (I'm 6'2") and the fast necks! I am having my 86' model 2 neck scalloped right now, should be back in March. I like the on/off switches you have, many late 80's guitar's had those. I had a Jackson soloist silverburst and a white ESP custom with the 3 switches, my other guitarist had a BC Rich with the 3 switches as well. I wrote a whole harmonized intro once with those! It is also fun to time a delay to the song tempo and use the on/off to harmonize yourself! Have fun with the Mod4!

Well thank you! It comes with age, I think! I'll tell ya this; in the Les Paul circles I usually run with, I'm like the illegitimate child. :ROTF:

What can I say, if it has strings on it, I'll play it! Every guitar has something to offer. I love 'em all.
