  • charvel journeyman wiring help

    I bought this guitar it is black with a jb humbucker a volume and a tone with a toggle the toggle is the only thing that is not hooked up at all this one is a single pole two position switch i just need to know if anyone has a wiring diagram for these at all and what the switch was used for thanks any help is greatly appreciated.
    Jackson ke3 kelly , charvy model 1 , charvy model 2, charvy model 4 (mint), charvy journeyman, aria 76' les paul, aria armoured warrior, kramer telecaster with boost and all are armed with either EMG 81 81/85 or duncan full shreds

    The switch is a coil tap, the duncan web site will have a diagram for you!

      but i thought a coil tap used 6 lugs and was a three way mini toggle this one only has 3 lugs and 2 positions that is why i was asking but thanks for the info i will check their site but i may have to change the mini toggle i was just wondering if anyone had a stock wiring diagram for this one was all.

        I used to have a Journeyman, coil tap for sure!

          IIRC, a basic coil split switch should just ground the connection between the two wires that are usually soldered together, the red & white wires on a Duncan pickup. On a SPDT mini-switch, I'm pretty sure you solder both wires to the middle contact, and wire one of the outer contacts to ground. So you get regular series wiring in one position, and a split coil in the other. I'll look for a diagram & make sure I don't have it wrong.

          Only diagram I could find on the Duncan site shows a DPDT push/pull pot for the switch, but it's the same basic idea since it only uses 2 of the contacts. What I said above should give you the inner (slug) coil in split mode. The Duncan diagram also shows how to wire it if you want the outer (adjustable) coil in split mode.
