  • model id?

    Hi,

My brother bought a Charvel that I'm trying to find out the model type.

The headstock is ...i've seen it refered to as a "psudo-stratocaster"

There is a serial number sticker on the back of the headstock that is 6500XXXX (I dont remember the whole thing, I dont have it in front of me)

The logo on the headstock is the the "Charvel by Jackson" logo that is shaped like a guitar.

There is nothing on the chrome neckplate, there is a neckplate gasket

I took the bolt-on neck off and it has the date FEB 23 1997 stamped on it.

The body is a standard Strat style (its all white) with bathtub routing

The pickguard is white also with a Humbucker bridge , Single, Single layout. It has tone, tone, volume knobs, and a 5 way selector switch.

The input jack is on the front of the body

The vibrato/bridge/tremolo looks like what is considered the traditional Strat tremolo

I think that about covers it.
If I missed something let me know.

    Thanks

It's very hard to tell without pictures.
However, the serial number doesn't look right (wrong amount of digits), plus no import Charvel/Jacksons came with a blank plate. The strat style body with pickguard also raises some warning flags for me. I do think however, that GC or MF had the habit of putting their own serials on their limited runs for a while. It's possible it could be one of those.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like a mutt. The reason for that is: The top mounted pickup jack, the Volume/Tone/Tone layout (I cant think of any Charvels from that time span with that layout), the blank neck plate, and the serial on the neck. Though 1997 was the year production ceased as Akai bought out Charvel/Jackson and cut the Charvel line, so if nothing else comes up it may have been built from leftover pats. But thats a HUGE what if. Did it say anything in the neck pocket?

I'll post a pic when I get home from work.

CharvelRocker - I was wondering the same thing. I was expecting something in the neck pocket when I took off the neck, but there is nothing there.

Maybe a Traditional with a swapped pickguard.

I was actually going to say that but couldn't name the model.

The San Dimas models would have had the 3/3 headstock logo, "Made in USA" under the logo, and most definitely would have been serialized.

It resembles mostly a CS-20, made in China. However the discontiuation year for the CS-20 is 96. The narrow-set dots kinda throw me off. However with it being discontinued in 96 and the date in the pocket being 1Q of 97, it may just be a CS-20 and either it's one of the very last made, or my info is wrong.

Looks like a Charvel Traditional neck on a strat copy body. Those pups arent Fender and the pickguard screw count is off also. It should be 11 screws but it only has 8. Its probably a cort or somethign similar body with the neck swapped. Also the top mount output jack. I/ve never seen a Charvel with a top mount strat-esque jack. But it could just be me.

I assume CS stands for Custom Shop. :ROTF:
