  • I'm about to buy a Charvel, but..

(I posted this in the US Charvel forum, they told me to post here)
I don't know what model it is.. I'm going to get it no matter what because the price for it seems amazing, and I've always wanted a Charvel (I'm selling my Ibanez S520 to get this guitar!!). I'd just like to know what model it is. It's a Blue/Purple burst bolt on, serial # 374034. Here's some pics:

    Anyone got any ideas?

The body looks like a USA model while the neck and plate are definately import. The backplates look like they are metal and all. Contoured heel too. I think we had one like this about a month ago in another thread. Same color and all, I believe. It might also be a Jap market only model but I didnt realize that they used the toothpaste logo ever. Very nice guitar at any rate.

Hmm, I have no idea what to think of it. It looks like a Model 3A or 5, but has the wrong headstock. It also looks like a 750xl, but its not arch top and not set neck..

Going on this theme, the body does look like a 1996 DR2 in UVB (ultra violet burst). If the rear covers are metal, that would fit. Trem is swapped from chrome 580 of the DR2 to what's on there now. Neck looks like from a 1989-90 375 Deluxe.

Since no toothpaste logos had the 2 hum in that finish, I'd guess either a 375 neck on a DR2 body with swapped trem and knobs or a Japanese Market only model.

Also, assuming the pics are from the seller, that fireplace in pic cv9 looks very familiar. A few years ago I bought a guitar that had a PC3 neck on a green flame maple top DK2 body with all gold hardware that had a similar fireplace in it's pics....yes, found it:

So the seller has at least once in the past 'created' guitars by marrying bodies and necks. Mine was well done and played excellent by the way.

this was up on ebay a few months back and the auction was pulled by the seller. there was a thread on it in e fraud. I think it was thought to be a us body and definetley import neck. low price

Haha, what do ya know, it's the same exact seller! I saw the guitar, and I saw the price and I had to jump at it $315. I can't wait to get it! Thanks for all the information dude!

                        Looks nice.

At least you won't have to look at that gay claw scratch inlay anymore.

And you don't have to contend with the funky wizard II neck profile they put on the new S series guitar, etc, etc.

$315 isn't bad for that. It looks good and appears very clean. The trem is better than what the DR2 came with, and the black hardware looks good on it. I wonder what the pickups are? The DR2 came with Duncan SH2 (Jazz) neck and SH12 (screamin demon) bridge.

The guy didn't know what the neck pickup was but the bridge is a Seymour Duncan TB4. It's cool because I've never tried that pickup, and if I don't like it I've got an EMG 81/89 set I can put in!

The JB is a cool pickup for sure. Neck pickup looks like a cheapo with the 2 sets of slug poles, definately not a Duncan
