  • Model 4 questions

What wood are they made of? I think both of mine are 88s. I havnt been able to make a positive ID. I know the 86s were dots and Kahler. What was the years before they changed them again? (logo change I think) 87-89?
What years were the black cherry color ones avail? I want one of those..
Are there replacements avail for the mid boost units anywhere??

What are they supposed to weigh per the manufacturers info back then?
My newest one is about 2 lbs lighter..

    Man I LOVE THESE!
    thanks!

Yeah, 89 is when they changed to logo on most (still had the old logo on the 3DR, 6 and 7). 87 and 88 were the only years the Model 4 had sharkies and the JT-6 and 86-88 is correct about the black cherry color.

Should look similar to the guitar on the right

That's a Model 6, not a Model 4 but you get the idea.

              Model 4's...

Love 'em too....have three now....and if the Lord is willin' and the creek don't rise I'll have more LOL!
About the electronics, as you know the 86's had a smaller mid boost circuit board - never seen one on fleaBay. But I have seen complete JE1200 setups (87's and 88's) on that site go for 80 - 100 bucks more or less. Hope this helps.

                    Je1200

                    BloodRose,
No "active" parts on fleabay as of this morning. Last few I've seen are listed as "JE1200 etc" or something as simple as "Pots, pickups, controls, etc" from a Jackson / Charvel guitar that came with a mid boost circuit. Keep lookin and you will score - just keep in mind that some descriptions might not be that specific. Good luck!

I bought one today that I thought was a model 4 until I read your post. looks just like the guitar on the right only it's blue. What makes a 4 a 4 and a 6 a 6?

                          Similar guitars. A Model 4 is a bolt-on neck. A Model 6 is a neck-thru. I don't think Model 4s have neck binding either.

right. No binding on the 4s and also, I believe the 6s have more of a Dinky body size.
