I believe they were made in Korea, from around '95 - '97. Here's a catalog page:

Im pretty sure that they are the lowest rung on the charvel tree. Even cheaper than the cx series. I dont believe they were made in Japan or Korea. Maybe India or China?

95-97 made in Korea. Actually, not that bad of guitars. I've got one that I've been considering modding.

Not bad for modding. Dinky body with a swimming pool route. The only drawback is finding a new pickguard for it. I think you have to have one custom made or grab a used one since the standard strat pickguards don't fit properly. I picked a CHS-2 about a year ago for $75. It had some crazy bedliner paint on it. After stripping and repainting the body, I upgraded the electronics and pickups. It's a decent player now and the neck is on the thinner side (if you can get past the poop headstock).

Have you played any thinner necks than this guitar.

Oh yea, the Jackson Dinky Reverse Pro is really thin. Jackson Performer PS1 and the Charvette 270's have really thin necks too. Ibanez necks, there's more than a few with thinner necks IMO. What I meant is that the CHS-2 neck is thin by comparison to other Jackson/Charvel models. As an example, A CHS2 has a thinner neck than a model series Charvel or some of the new import compound radius necked Jacksons.

I see a lot of people complaining about pickguards for charvels and whatnot. Not sure what you mean by it not fitting. If you're talking about the holes lining up... No big deal, the pickguard itself will cover the original filled-in holes. If you're talking about the neck area or the tremolo area, well, that's what a dremel tool is for.

And unlike others, I really have no problem with that headstock. Though, there are a couple of Charvel headstocks that I don't care for.

I have a CHS2 I bought new as my first guitar. It is a great player.I replaced the Pickups with SD Screamin' Demon in the bridge, SSl in the middle and cool rail in the neck. Very fine sounding set up in this guitar. The neck has all kinds of flame figuring. It looks like a Fender Custom Shop. As for a replacement pick guard get one here.
