  • Is this a Predator?

    Hi.....

I've just bought this as a 'cheap' guitar for home recording.
I was looking at a cheap Yamaha Pacifica or similar, but stumbled across this and it played real nice. The headstock repair seems spot on and for £55 ($100), well what else is there!!!!

I'd appreciate some info on the guitar if possible.

      Thanks for the reply...

Is the single coil standard? It looks stacked like a seymour duncan hot rail?

The p'up selector switch is 5 way.....

Any suggested places for spares etc....would like to get one replacement tuner & the trem arm is missing....

      cheers

Just fyi, the string lock blocks on the trem are missing. He has the ball ends just locked in there. This may be fine for light to no trem use but for any major trem usage you will probably have tuning problems. I dont know if the standard floyd blocks will fit in the jt-6 that you have.

          The Predator doesn't have a JT6; it's a JT590/580 (whichever one is Schaller-made, I can't remember )

EDIT: now that I look at the pics again, the guitar has the wrong bridge. At least, it's different from mine.

Yeah, someone put a jt-6 on it. It doesnt quite fit the rout and it probably doesnt work too well on that guitar either. The schaller would be the perfect replacement as its the one that belongs there, but if youre not too much of a wammyer then one of those cheap schaller knock offs might serve you ok, especially considering that the schaller will probably run you more than you paid for the whole guitar. If you dont plan on using the trem at all then just block that jt-6 and leave it as is.

Or sell the JT-6 and the Schaller might cost you an extra $25 after you sell the JT-6.

is the Schaller floyd a direct retro fit to the JT-6?

If you can haggle the price, I'd say take a little off for the jacked up machine head.

It can be. Most jt-6 installs are not recessed, so as long as you get a schaller with a long block it shouldnt be a problem. There may be some issue with the amount of travel that you get using the jt-6 studs with the schaller trem but I think that only affects severe dive bombing. Also the jt-6 is normal spaced as opposed to f-spaced like an ofr and the schaller but I dont think this causes any problems. Once you start with recessed trems you have to deal with the shape of the rout and length of the lock screws and if it will all work out.
