  • question about 650XL

Hi people, recieved my 650 from ebay,
damn, it's so bright! no bass at all, i swiched original bridge J50 to Dimarzio tone-zone and connected it thru the mid-boost like originals..
tone-zone is a very bassy and balsy pick-up, but it's still sound not bassy at all.
what's the problem? is it because of the mid-boost? maybe this mid-boost cirquit removes the bass, so i should try to connect it directly?

or maybe it's the guitar woods? but i don't think it has so M-U-C-H diffrence?

read people reviews of 650XL at harmony-central and everybody write the guitar sound so fuul and rich...but not mine....

    help!!!

The active midboost may need a fresh battery.

I wouldn't bother hassling with the stock boost and electronics. Upon advice from my former luthier, I had all of that stuff tore out. My stock pickups and mid-boost was a muddy, unrefined tone. He put in a fresh EMG kit - electronics, pots, 5-way, jack, 85, SA, SA. Now it has serious punch, note definition, clarity with chords, and sustain for days. It's now officially for metal only.

Most say the original active electronics work best with the stock pickups. If the J50 didn't have enough oomph, u could try the J80 or J90C. But honestly, if u didn't like the J50, you'll likely not like the active system with any pickup. Try the Tonezone straight thru, and you'll probably dig it.

The 650's a great axe, you'll just need to find the right pickup.
