  • Charvel 3DR + jt-6 tremolo arm help

Okay so I just bought my 2nd guitar... A-yeah!

...firecrackle 3DR to be used as a backup for my Predator but as you can see it has an extra knob (tone) that shouldnt be there. Is this some kinda rare factory setup or did some madman modify it thus ruining the simplicity that in my opinion was bliss (Im no expert but the knobs, pots & wiring all look uniform to me... then again it could have been a complete redo)???

Also does anyone know where I can get a replacement black jt-6 tremolo arm besides ebay and what oil is best for the blades, Im just using WD-40?

    Thanx

Nice guitar. I don't know about the knobs, tone could have been added. As far as the bar goes I would try budman http://fretsonthenet.com/ I as sure he can hook you up. I like the 3in1 oil myself.
    Just one more guitar!

An Ibanez Edge trem arm will work with a JT-6 just fine.

Sweet, thanx for the link scotty.

So according to http://fretsonthenet.com/apparently they never made black tremolo arms for the jt-6... interesting I swear Ive seen them in black but as rjohnstone said since Edge trems are the same I guess it could have been one of them

I just sold a Charvel Model 5A with a black bar...and it looked to me like a black JT-6 original bar, not an ibanez pop in (I remember specifically thinking that when I packed it up). Here's the only pics I have, but the bar is installed:

And I think I have another with a black bar....

This auction has one that looks like mine:

If these two really are the Ibanez one, then as rjohnstone says, they work fine!

Hmmm I checked some catalogue scans and they were all chrome (a few black arms with grips in the early 80's catalogues but Im not even sure if those old Charvels had jt-6 tremolos)... anyway I still think me and MountainDog are right, maybe there just arent that many of em

Oh and I found a black Ibanez Edge bar on ebay

and its $6 cheaper than the chrome ones made by fretsonthenet.
              I sure hope it fits!

I guess that Dave guy over at frets on the net must be lying........

By the way, Brian, there were quite a few different configurations of Ibanez bars which were even used in the old Powerocker bridges as well.

Phil, I'm glad you found a black bar to match your trem, I had always wished that Jackson/Charvel really did make black bars but indeed I've spoken to many people "in the know" and have yet to ever see a factory JT6 black bar.

Also, a tip on the Ibanez bars, unfortunately they can break.

I agree on that statement. I've had 3 of them break on me over the course of 15 years.
                      Good thing they are cheap.

I hear that Dave guy makes stronger replacements.

I'll be hitting you up for a new one the next time mine snaps.

They typically break where the plastic bushings are located.
At least that's where all 3 of mine broke.
Mine broke on the upper bushing almost flush with the arm socket.

I can tell you that Dave at 'frets-on-the-net' is a straight-shooter and makes FINE products. If he is incorrect on anything (and I say 'if') then it is not to mislead anyone.
Once again...the guy makes great products.
My Duncan Designed pickups are way better than Seymour Duncan regular pickups you fanboy.

Yeah...too bad the forum doesn't have a minimum IQ.

How do you guys break your Ibanez bars? It must just be when used in the Jackson trem. I've been using Edge trems since their inception and have never broke a bar...

I just got a Model 2 but the bar was missing, I have an extra Ibanez bar so I stuck it in and yes, they do fit. No real slop. So that's good...

But then again, I don't go all Steve Vai on my trems. Is that how your bars are breaking???
                              I'm angry because you're stupid
