Newbie / Charvel 88

[Jackson/Charvelfan]

Hello everyone!
I have been looking for a Charvel 88 for years and found one a few months back. The SN is (308). It has some play were and by no means NIB.

I am still on the hunt for a few strat head Charvel's a few Jackson USA's and a Jackson 88.

Welcome and sweet AXE you have there,I had one wayyyyyyy back in 89ish.For whatever reason I sold it to another friend ( IIRC needed $$$ for my 70 GTO) than the guy I sold it to. . ready in his kitchen tried to do the Yngwie flip around and well didnt turn out and it smashed the pointed headstock right off right infront of me .

Question, is the neck supposed to be finished or natural?

If IIRC they came finished,yours looks sanded down in the pix above look at the heel contour. .not a smooth arc.

Good eye, ADR. There is a definite dip there.
I never really noticed. I'm not going to go back and
change it, though, I have gotten used to it.

Between the near mint body on mine, and the
near mint neck on J/C fan's, we might have a
real nice Model 88!

I do like these guitars though. Even though they have a reverse headstock...

Tone control: Yeah, I knew that as soon as I wrote it. It's been there so long for me that I don't consider it.

Reverse headstock: I don't know what people have against them, I like them and have no problem with them. Perhaps it's because I'm a lefty that plays right handed.

Another thing, I sometimes see people kind of trashing the EMG's...I have found this to be the most nuetral, well rounded pickup there is. Very easy to get a wide range of sounds from. Although I can't say for sure what the Jackson pup would have sounded like in this guitar, all of my experiences with the EMG 81's and 85's have been very stable, quiet, and good for recording. I have also grown so accustomed to it in this guitar, I'm not all that sure I would change it.

Especially since I've been told too many times it's been mutilated beyond repair by someone putting a tone knob on it.

10-15 years from now, it won't make much difference.

I may get bashed for this but I wouldn't change the pickup either. The EMG is a better pickup than the one that came in there. I like EMG's. I have them in about half of my guitars...

The tone knob is really no big deal. Looks like it was well done. It does devalue it a bit but who cares, right? You like the guitar, screw the resale value. Play the shit out of it...

I don't like Jacksons headstock reversed. I think it looks a bit to angled. But to each their own...

I have a buddy that's a lefty but plays right handed. Thats how I would have done it if I was a lefty. Better right handed guitars out there...

I got the guitar as it is. At the time, it wasn't anything special,
but I hung onto it and didn't abuse it because I had a feeling it was too well
built to be just another Charvel. So I abused my Hamer instead....
