Hi everyone,
Thanks for all of the great feed back.
I under stand about the EMG's. I think they are great pickups.
I have a Kramer Pacer Carrea that I changed the stock pickups for an EMG 89 in the Neck and a 81 in the Bridge. This was my main guitar from 86 until I got the 88 earlier this year.
If any one is looking for an 88 qty 2 are for sale now.
This one is priced high for me but if ya need to have one here ya go.
This one has a modded nut.
I am still on the hunt for a good used Charvel strat head in player condition and a Jackson 88 LTD and the list goes on and on.

JC, have you noticed the difference in the grain on some of these?
I've looked at that first link, the damge on the back is just too severe. The second one has a very plain, straight grain. Yours is much more figured, as mine is. The fretboard is also very light on that second link. I know, I'm a bit picky, considering the mods on mine. Take my advice. Take care of it. I might snag it from you later on.

Hi Cygnus X1,
Yes I have. I guess like all wood products no two are the same especialy when it comes to African Mahogany. I have noticed most bodies are made from 2 sections. Some are book mached very well and others well as you can see not so well. I have also noticed that in with the sunburst that a shading coat was added to hide the grain and even it out. look at the diffrence in the rear routes and the finished areas. I have seen a few of these over the years but some I guess look a little better than others. On the finish on the back of the necks of all of the import Charvels at this time Mid to late 80's there were no oil finishes. I haven't looked at the 90's era to see if this is the same on the neck finish. A lot of the fretboards I have seen lately have been very dry. Mine was as well but you can bring most back if there is no cracking. Your 88 looks great did you buff out the finish? So anyways here is to the Charvel model 88 the best as far as from my point of view of the Import Charvels.

My 88 (#299) has a very straight grain on both pieces and book matched very well. The neck is your usual gloss finish. The one thing I did notice tho' the fretboard on my 88 is thicker than any of the other model series guitars I have bought lately.I don't see ever selling mine it took too long to find one that was unmolested.Last edited by straycat; 09-18-2007, 11:22 PM.Really? well screw Mark Twain.

Yes I agree I cannot get the same OFR feel as the bar moves and doesn't fit at tight. I have been thinking of changing the JT6 for a OFR and putting the JT6 in the case to keep the orginal parts.
goodwood,
Thanks for the comments I always thought this series looked realy cool as it sounds great.
