  • Replacing the bridge on a Fusion Special?

    Hello.

I have a Fusion Special that I routed out for H-S pickup config (didn't like the tone of the original Charvel stacked single coils) and the next thing I want to change is the Tremolo bridge.

Will a 'standard' Floyd Rose bridge fit this guitar ok? If not, is there anything that would?

    Thanks for any help.

Yep, a Schaller, a Floyd Rose II, or a used Jackson JT-590 (basically identical to a Schaller Floyd) are the best bets to drop right in and fit the recess route without the string-lock screws overhanging.

Yep. But make sure it's a newer Floyd II, as the original Floyd II back in the day was single-locking and pretty much the same as what's on that guitar now.

          Cheers for the replies guys.

The single locking trem that's on there is pretty crappy, even for keeping tuning stable when I'm not using the trem.

So a Schaller Floyd Rose Trem should fit on this guitar with no modifications required?

Also, if/when I get a replacement bridge that fits this guitar, I plan to set it up for down bend only (same as the Peavey Wolfgang) guitars. Is this likely to cause any issues?

Technically, you can convert that tremolo to a double locking. However, it may not be cost-effective.

If there's a tremolo unit that will just drop in, then that seems like my easiest (and like you say) more cost effective option than to modify what's there already.

Just replace the saddles with the original double locking saddles.
GraphTech will do the job also.....not cheap but will work great.

Graph Tech's Floyd saddles don't sound any different than regular Floyd saddles, IMO. They'll also crack pretty easily since they're plastic.

Can't you just use any run of the mill licensed Floyd Rose saddles or is there something specific to the Schallers that has to be that brand only?

The thinner barreled floyd string lock screws will wiggle a bit within the pathway through the baseplate. Though the tension of the clawspring may negate that.

Exactly, its best to use ones from a schaller. Some of the cheap knockoffs Ive seen had the short, fat, stubby bolts too. Maybe you can find one like that for cheap on ebay and use it for the parts.

They all have different diameters. The knockoffs are the 'in-betweens'.

I bought one and discovered that one of the string lock screws were bent, so I tried replacing it with a Schaller string lock screw. It wouldn't go through the pathway in the baseplate. I ended up finding shorter original floyd type of string lock screws and replaced them all. (not too much wiggle, but a little) It looks like the bastard son of Floyd and Schaller.
