  • 650xl replacemant pickups

    Hi,
guitar sounded good until i got me a second axe PRS CE 24
Now thinking of replacing pickups in 650 xl,becouse guitar is othrerwise really nice.
    Was thinking of Seymour Duncan
    Distortion trembucker-bridge
    hot rail-neck
    vintage rail-middle

Does anyone have experience with those pups in the same or similar guitar?Any other suggestions?
BTW i am into old school metal, stoner, heavy rock...
Amp is JCM900 with OD to push it...
    Thanx

I would personally fit a Bareknuckle Miracle Man or a Holy Diver in the bridge position as they are quite simply awesome. I am currently replacing most of my Duncans with Bareknuckles although, they do not make any single coil size humbuckers at present so I'd say the Seymours are the way to go in the neck & middle positions if you specifically want humbuckers.

    PS....welcome to the board

i replaced in my 650XL to Dimarzio Tone-Zone bridge, Hotrails neck, and vintage fender single in middle,
      sound like different world now...
i prefer dimarzio hums in bridge because they are more beefy and less trebly like duncans...
however hotrails in neck is nice...
      try it
Don't drink & drive if you can smoke & fly!!!

        pickups

        Thanx for reply

Bareknuckle are a bit pricy and there is no distributer where i live

Will also consider tone zone, cos i am afther that beefy sound.

I put in a Duncan Distortion in the bridge of my Model 6 along with a Lil JB in the middle and a Lil 59 in the neck. It is my favorite guitar currentlyu over several USA Jackson and Les Pauls...

BTW, the Distortion is anything but trebly in my 6. Just my .02.

In the apartment where I'm staying, I have a 750XL loaded with the distortion mayhem set, and an SL2H with the 59/JB set. At first I hated the JB, but now it's really grown on me.

Don't get me wrong - the DD set is great, but I don't think the JB gets the chance it deserves. Very good leads and singing quality.

I'm a little worried about you saying the 650XL was fine until you got the PRS. All guitars don't sound the same. I have historic LP's but I still love my Jacksons, and I don't try to force them to be something they aren't.

Evos make it scream...but perhaps not in the way that you want..PAF Pro are nice but probably not enough output for you. Tonezone is pretty extreme. Some people hate it...some love it. I love my Evo2..only if its in the right guitar.

The Duncan Distortion is SDs go-to pickup in my opinion. That and the JB but I hate the sound of a JB...way to trebly. Having said that I dont like SDs as much a Dimarzios.

Everyone has their own taste and like they say first impressions last. Everyone will tell you something but in the end the voice inside your head tells you to go back and get what you wanted at the beginning...

I tend to go and check out the tone samples and youtube clips and get an idea from that.

My 2cent is the Distortion. Because all my favourite Dimarzio tend to be to "modern" for your needs
