  • Different Charvel models?

Can anyone explain to me the different Charvel models? (ie - what separates a Model 6 from a 650XL from a Fusion, etc)

    Thanks!

Thanks. I was looking at those scans. but I'm still unclear as to which the higher-end models are, what the better licensed FR bridges are, etc...

Best bridge was the JT-590, which was basically a Schaller Floyd. They were available from '89 through the early '90s. As for what was higher end, it all depended on features. All Model Series and most of the "toothpaste logo" Charvels were equally well-made, but prices were higher as features like sharkfin inlays or active electronics were added, and the neckthrough models were more expensive. Some people actually prefer the more stripped-down models, but I guess a rough list of what some might consider higher-end models would be Model 4, 4M, 5, 5A, 5FX, 6, Model 88, maybe the rare Model 8, then later the 475, 550XL, 650XL, 750XL, maybe the Spectrum & some of the Fusions with special features. I'm sure I forgot something, but like I said, they were all well-made, so there's no clear cutoff line as to what was "low-end" or "high-end". Just look for one that has the features you like, or better yet get one of each.
