  • My 750XL Ladies

With the help of a few members on the forum, I bring you my ladies. Sorry so big, thanks again. I'm in the process of refinishing them. The amber is a third of the way done.

Just curious, but why are you refinishing them?

Gorgeous! Great pics, thanks for posting them. Man, the amber is killer! Refinishing? What are you doing to 'em?

      Again, super nice lookin' guitars!

I knew I'd get grief for the refinishing... But to my defense they both have a few chips to the wood or I wouldn't have dreamed of touching them. I figured these are mine for life so, i'm just staining the cap and leaving the rest natural. I'll post more as the process goes on. FORGIVE MEEEEE!!!!!

I have a 750Xl, acquired in July. I have youtube vids of me hacking through songs on it. Not been playing it as much as I should, as I have a Mexi Strat and Squeir 51 that just slay at the moment. I'd love to try a string through/fixed bridge. Shred magician Alex Masi has some too, fixed bridge. The sustain must be monstrous.

I also am gonna cry out against them being stained/refinned, but as you say they ARE yours.

Very shiney looking, BTW. I always wonder what you guys use to get them like that. What pickups are in there, too?

(Are they on the audiozone 750XL register?)

Staining the cap... because of dings?

If so, may I suggest an alternative; sand the clear coat, touch up the dings with drops of super glue, sand, and then do a final clear coat + polish.

Staining the cap will be the biggest mistak.. oh, wait sorry, you're right - they ARE your guitars

+1...please reconsider a refin, unless it is a top notch pro doing the job...
Awesome fiddles, I wish I could pick one up myself, only a few dozen more trades away until I could justify it.

i may be crazy but, you guys are brutal!!! anyways these guitars are priceless to me as i owned one 16 yrs ago and by some sort of fate ( and searching religiously for 8yrs) i own the same one and acquired the other a few months later in glasgow. i'm a woodworker and a painter so i should be ok in these projects. but i do appreciate all concern. i'll post more pics soon and they will be custom ladies. thanks all

Do you really think it will make them any better? I see no real problems with these. There was a 750XL a dork totally F'd up - it was being sold on ebay. I think he got less than $350 for it. A 750XL not F'd up went for $1500 on ebay once not too long ago.

They are your guitars so you decide, but you won't hear me encouraging you to do it.

I'm sure you wouldn't do anything to those 2 unless you were confident in your skills so I'm behind you, sounds like fun. Just for the record, I think they look fine. A 16 year old should have some dings on it's travel through life.
