  • Pickup equivalent the the J90C?

What pickup would be equivalent the the J90C that came in the old model guitars? A Duncan JB?

Well, the J90C used ceramic magnets and the Duncan JB uses alnico. A Duncan Distortion would likely fit the bill more. But those Jackson pickups are pretty unique, hard to really nail that tone, especially if the pickups are running with an active circuit. I haven't found a better rock tone than a J90C with a JE-1000 circuit.

Yeah, I just noticed the difference in magnets with the pickups. The Duncan Custom or Custom 5 look to have somewhat similar specs. I didn't really see anything with similar specifications on the Dimarzio site.

I've replaced all the bridge pickups on my guitars with Dimarzios without really giving it much thought until I got a Model 3 with the J90C in the bridge. Now I'm looking for a pickup similar enough the the one in the M3 to put in my project guitar. I really can't believe that a stock pickup sounds this good. I'm really impressed with the range I can get out of it with my volume knob.

Thanks Nazgul. I didn't realize there was so much love for this pickup.
