well, if the person did say that, they clearly have their head in their ass, as I can see frets from start to finish, no matter which way you look at it

Easily. I bet someone would pay you a decent amount just for the neck. 22 frets, sharks and binding is a rare combo. That rosewood looks a bit light to me but still Id think it would sell fairly easily for decent money. I'd say as long as the guitar is a nice as it looks without any major hidden issues you could flip it for like $300.

I looked really closely at that pic. You can see that the frets have apparently been taken out after the 12th. Notice how there is no reflection from the metal after the 12th fret? The lines are still there, though.
