  • pickup - grounds? what the...

Im replacing my bridge and neck pup on my Spectrum.. But i saw something weird when took off bridge pup!!!! A wire going underneath it, into the wiring cavity onto a ground i think. So confused as it's not even CONNECTED to the pickup. And i think it's like that with all pikcups with this wire under it, because there's a wire going into each section. Two yellow, and a black go under the pickups. Do i need to touch theser when rmoving pickups?
    This guitar is weird!

    THANKS FOR HELP

The pup cavities were painted with conductive paint at the factory, creating a shield (a "Faraday cage") around the pickups. The wires you see connect the shielding to the common ground in the guitar. This is supposed to prevent radio interference, and to my knowledge, all Jackson/Charvels have these wires. Just leave them where they are.

I have been wanting to ask that question for a long time.
        Just one more guitar!

I've always wondered how effective those shielded pickup cavities really are. I mean the whole top of the pickup is exposed anyway, unless you have pickup covers.

Ah one more question about my new pickup..
its a SD, and the green+bare shield wire arent long enough to reach the ground point where everything was before. Can i just add a single solid piece of wire (soldered to the green+bare shield wire), and then ground?

Never done a pup swap, so just wondering if this single solid wire will work fine. Let me know !!! THANKS
