Model series and Contemporary series (script logo, aka toothpaste logo) bolt-on Charvels are all basswood. Trans-colors had flamed maple top and backs. With this said, there are a couple of exceptions:
Model 7 (tobacco burst) - Ash
Model 88 - African Ribbon Mahogany

**Note, I'm speaking of bolt-on bodies only.
hahahah, I knew I was going to get corrected. I have searched on this site and many others and heard they were all alder. I was assuming that what I was reading was correct. I'm sorry I gave the wrong info, I did say I could be wrong though.

I'm not sure how you can read that they were all Alder on this forum. I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of folks around here realize that they're basswood.

But, I'll stop busting your chops.

If so, does it really matter that it's not Alder?

Or are you a spec snob?

Listen the the sound Via gets out of his Jems... they're made of Basswood.
Actually it's because I bought the guitar because I wanted an alder guitar and was told it was an alder guitar. It sounds fine but wouldn't you be a little disappointed if something you bought was not what you thought it was or advertised as?

I work for a music store actually and got it second hand actually but I really don't care anymore cause I love it to death.
I just wanted something a bit different than what I already had in my other guitar.

And I'm by no means a spec snob

Poplar wood was used for the bodies during 1991 on the Charvel 475...

Most of my USA Jacksons are poplar, they rock IMO.

I think poplar sounds closer to alder. Basswood always sounded a little darker and duller to me.
