  • SCORE! Charvel Rhoads MUTT... can someone ID the body?

Well, I went to a couple of different music stores looking for a small bedroom type practice amp... but that's not what I came home with. It was cheap and I just couldn't pass it up for the price.

What I know... It's a Model 88 neck and Model 88 4 digit import plate. It's got a Jackson licensed JT580LP double locking trem...

Neck is absolutely dead mint, no fret wear (probably recent fret level) no headstock tip damage, but has been beautifully plugged and redrilled. It fits the body nice and tight, and sustain is immaculate. It is also very well intonated, only out on one string (which I'll put on the strobe sometime I imagine)... Action is a bit high for my liking, but not a single fret buzzes, so I should be able to lower it considerably.

I would just like to know what body is on it. I have no real clue on import Jackson bodies, or even if it's a cheaper knock off or anything.... the best pics I could take at night:

It actually looks much cleaner in person.

Looks like a Rhoads Ex body but the 3-way toggle (should be a blade switch) and shape of the plastic control plate on the back is not normal to me. Maybe the Rhoads Ex came in two/more configurations...

xeno, do you see indications of modding around the 3-way toggle? (a filled up slot for a blade switch).

But yes, it could be a lower series body, which I don't know much about.

The Avenger is a slanted Humbucker (double single) and a single coil. This body is a Jackson of some variety unless it has been seriously re-configured.

The configuration is the same as an RR-4 (96-97 - which later became the Rhoads EX), hardware was black, but the pickups were Duncan Designed. (doesn't mean much because pickups and hardware can be replaced easily)

It does have what appears to be a standard recessed Jackson route for the trem... I'll pull it apart and have a better look.

The toggle is original. There is nothing in the neck pocket.

Dual hum is original. It is not an Avenger body.

                      Square jack plate.

I just want to know why would someone screw up a Model 88 for the neck?
                        Killer looking mutt, though...
                        Good score!

Any idea what this is worth?

I'm thinking $350 here or $400 ebay? Sound fair?

I think a lot of people would pay that much, just for the neck.
