  • Charvel model 1 questions?

Hello everyone, this is my first post here but I have been on the The Gear Page and Hamer Fan Club for years. I found a used Charvel for $250 that plays real nice and I am thinking of buying. I don't know much about them so thought I would ask for some advice. It is a Fort Worth neckplate guitar that is cherry red with black pickguard and rosewood fingerboard. It has 2 singles and a humbucker along with the black hardware and Kahler bridge. I played this at the store and it plays great unplugged and had promise through an amp but all they had was cheap amps to play through. I guess my question is the price good and are these as nice as I think they might be? Thanks for any info!!!

    Thanks,

    Goldstrat

Sounds like you're describing either an '86 Model 3 or Model 4. The '86 Model 3 had a pickguard, 5-way switch and Kahler Fulcrum trem. The 4 had no pickguard, 3 mini-toggle switches, a Kahler Standard flat mount trem, plus active electronics. Check through these catalog pages & you should be able to tell which it is:

You are correct! It is a model 3 with the pickguard and passive electronics. I went to get it today and the store was closed even though the website said they were open on Sunday. Do you think it is worth $250? Thanks for the info. I corrected the title of this thread to Model 3.
        Thanks,

$250 is a good price as long as it's in good shape. As always, it never hurts to try to talk them down a little.
