  • Japanese Charvel ID/Specs Help

While I don't have the serial number handy right now, I have some specs.

    -2 SD Livewire pickups
-Ebony fretboard (or painted rosewood, who knows)
    -24 frets, jumbo I believe
-Transparent blue body with (probably fake) quilt top
    -Licensed Floyd Rose Trem

When I picked this one up it was second-hand. All the hardware is gold, but I don't believe it to be the original hardware. My best guess is that it's a Model A (Model A's had black hardware if I'm not mistaken). While I'm pretty sure of the model, I'd like someone to confirm it and maybe even provide me with ALL the specs as I'm no Charvel expert. Hell, I don't even like the guitar much so if I want to sell it someday maybe I can find out how much these guys go for.

    Appreciated.

Well, the pickups are after market for sure. Some pictures and description of the inlays/headstock would help too.

sounds like a model a to me with the hardware changed. the quilt top is real 1/8".
I sold mine for 450 a few years ago. some have sold for less.

        I

        Agree...

I had a black Model A that sold for the same amount. Very under-rated guitars. Pulled the SD HM Livewires and installed a Full Shred set...just fricken tonal bliss!! The only odd thing is that the trem has the E strings running too close to the edge of the board.

That's the guitar, for sure. Just a different finish. You guys sure the quilt top isn't a veneer? A maple quilt top seems extravagant for a guitar that sells for less than 500.

brand new they were $1049. Look at the side of the guitar and you can actually see the maple top. It's not that thick but it's not veneer. I bought mine for $460 new when they had discontinued them and it was also a dent and scratch item. Ebony boards aren't cheap either. Great guitar except for those live wires.

Mine was 400 used in a shop. Everything was mint, save for the hardware swap. Oddly enough, there was a sticker on the headstock that matched the body. Blue quilted maple design. I don't know what the original owner thought wrong about the headstock, but that thing was a pain in the ass to remove.

It played wonderfully while I was still using it. I need to change the strings and set up the tremolo. When I was gigging with it it served as either a backup guitar or an alternate tuning guitar. I hated the Livewires, so the JBs are sitting in there. I'm gonna check up on the wiring and throw some lighter strings on there...maybe even tune it standard. The pictures don't show it but right now the trem is really sitting forward. I might even replace the trem with an original Floyd if it's not going to require too heavy of a routing job.

                      So it's a Model A. Neat.

There is a post on here, on how to set up yo' tremolo. Its probably got a JT580 on it which will probably be just fine on that guitar. The trem should sit flush with the body. floyds aren't good guitars to be changing the tuning on. I don't like to change the tuning on any of my guitars. Thats why GAS addicts have 5 or more guitars

Haha, the only reason I haven't fixed the trem is sheer laziness. The guitar sat in a storage unit for a LONG time after the band broke up and I just moved to Florida and broke it out. Since I moved I'm still looking for work and as such my budget doesn't even allow for a new set of strings (which my KV2 is aching for).
