Anyway yeah...I have 15 or so Model series Charvels, and all the necks are pretty much identical, as you say. But this one Model 1 is different from all the others. Maybe they were using it during a set up of a machine or something and hadn't quite gotten everything just right. Whatever the reason, it's a cool change.

Do you think it adds something to the tone, or is it just the feel? I hear that Teles seem to be preferred with big, thick necks, not just for the feel or comfort (?), but because of a claimed contribution to tone.

I think most of it comes from the hands, but it's an interesting idea.

Thanks, everyone, for the welcomes. Guitarforceone, I saw that you're in Austin. Is there anyone you would recommend for Floyd setups in the area? I guess I should learn to do it myself already, but it looks like a major PITA.

I think a fatter neck makes a thicker tone. The best example I can think of is most Ibanez guitars...super skinny necks that many players love but a/b one with another guitar that has a thicker neck and normally you can hear a much fuller sound from the thicker necked guitar. Many factors can influence this but in my experience most guitars feel thicker and sound thicker than the ultra thin Ibanez necked rigs.
My Duncan Designed pickups are way better than Seymour Duncan regular pickups you fanboy.

Yeah...too bad the forum doesn't have a minimum IQ.

Both my 88 Model 1C and my 87 Model 4M have thicker necks than my other Model series guitars.

Actually the Model 1 does sound different than my others, but I'm thinking it's because of the maple board instead of the neck thickness. I haven't had many maple boarded guitars, so I don't really have anything else to compare it to. But it does have a different sound.

As far as set ups in Austin, South Austin Music does good set-ups. It's located on South Lamar, past Ray Hennigs Heart of Texas, on the same side of the street.

The Model 1's and Model 7's I have seem like beefier necks than any of the other Model Series to me. Maybe it's because of them using Maple?
