  • Just another "help identify" post...

    Hello,

I'm new to the forum. First of all, let me say I've enjoyed reading the posts and trying to figure out exactly what I've got. It's clear this forum is full of people who know their Jackson's and Charvel's very well.

I'm pretty sure what I have is a Charvel Fusion Plus. There are a couple aspects to this guitar that make me wonder.

It has the small dot inlays between the E and A strings which are indicative of the Plus. It has a beautiful clear red finish with nice wood grain visible. It is a bolt on neck with rosewood fretboard. Serial number 366125. Licensed Floyd Rose. Pickups have "Jackson" printed on them.

    Things that make me wonder:
    - It does not have the "toothpaste" logo. It has the Charvel guitar shape logo. I think the Plus typically had the toothpaste logo.
    - It has a 3 way position switch and double coil pickups at the bridge position and a single coil at the neck position. I believe the plus had a 5 way switch and two double coils.

Another interesting thing about this guitar is that it's from Japan but not a dealer import. It was brought over by an individual visiting Japan who purchased it there and brought it back to the USA. I have the original owners manual and it's all in Japanese.

So I'm thinking it's an early 90's Japanese Charvel Fusion Plus (mutt maybe?). I hope the experts in this forum can provide more information.

This guitar is all original in near mint condition with only light surface scratches in the finish near the pick/playing area. Any ideas on value would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Not sure on the scale. I would have to measure and I'm not near the guitar right now.

      Got the images to show.

          Japanese market Charvel.
          Can't recall the exact model.

if it wasn't for the single coil, the 3-way blade, non-recessed trem & the logo, I'd agree with your assessment as a Fusion Plus. It's not, but everything else, the ash body, 24 frets, offset dots, colour matched headstock, would point that way.

I don't know what model it is, but it is very cool. As rjohnstone said, Japanese market model.

Scale length is 24.75". What does that indicate? What if it was 25.5"?

Indicates a fusion model. Fusions were the dinky-style body with the Gibson scale length. (24.75") Mostly Charvels and Jacksons are Fender scale length. (25.5")

And I'd have to agree, Overseas-market guitar. With the logo, and the specs, nothing was produced for USA with that. Now, the script logo and the specs, that's a different animal.

So it seems that it's a Fusion of sorts but not quite like the Fusions "officially" imported to USA. Thus a Japanese market Fusion. Or I wonder if they had some other name for it in this particular configuration. Maybe if I could read the owners manual I could find out. I'll have to see if I can find someone that reads Japanese.

Thanks everyone for the comments and information! This is one of my favorite guitars and I'm glad to now know more about it.

Any ideas on value? I'm not planning on selling it. Just curious.

I noticed something odd with the trem route; the trem is further forward than the route, and that is a JT590/Schaller route, and not one for the JT580, which is what is in there. Those posts also look like they have been moved forward. Also, those JT580's were never nonrecessed afaik. Take that trem out and see if you can see the dowel that was used to fill the original holes.

Actually, that route looks like the one from the 3DR, where there is a recess, but only below the tremolo lock screws.

yep, similar to the 550XL, which coincidentally came with a Schaller with that same rout, but had a toothpaste logo:

Good observation. I hadn't really noticed that before. It does seem to be set forward or have an oddly placed route. I went ahead and took the trem off to have a look. There do not appear to be old repaired/filled in holes. See pics below.

So it is by design, and as previous posters have stated, like some other models. Seems to be getting farther away from a Fusion in some respects.

I've also posted some pictures of the trem. It doesn't have a model number on it, so I'm wondering what it is. It has "TAKEUCHI" and "MADE IN JAPAN" printed on it. On top it has the Charvel guitar logo and "Licensed Under Floyd Rose Pats." In the owners manual it has two types of trems listed. An "FLC-101" and "FLC-202 Shaller Jackson". From the diagram, it appears I have the FLC-101. Japnese market trem as well? Not a Shaller?

Also included in the manual are some wiring diagrams. Odd thing is that there is no diagram for an H-S setup. Only for H-H or H-S-S. So the manual doesn't even cover the configuration of this guitar.

Also included in the documentation that I got with the guitar is a Guarantee Card. This has the model number on it...

                              SDK-080-SH

Anybody have any information on what the model number may indicate?

The Guarantee Card also has the color listed as STR. See Through Red? S? Transparent Red?

I've included more pictures. Any further comments regarding the model number, trem, value, or new photos are greatly appreciated.

                              Thanks!
