My reason for selling this guitar was stricktly because I needed cash. I had four guitars and my main guitar at the time was a Gibson Les-paul. However I sold the 88 to people I knew with the reservation of letting me know first if it ever was for sale again. The other week I just remembered my friend having the 88 lying in it´s case in a wardrobe I asked him if he was willing to trade an Ltd ec 400 for it and it was a deal.
As I said before this is the third time and this time it´s a keeper.

John's half deaf anyway so I wouldn't worry about his opinion.
Seriously, I got one of the 88s from John. On this one, the J95 was swapped with an Air Norton by the previous owner (not John) and with that pickup, it was muddy sounding to me too with my amp. After I put it back to original with the J95 I had laying around, it does have a little more bite and clarity but maintains the warmer tone it should have with this type of wood.

        You talking too me

I know the old saying that the value of an opinion is generally inversely proportional to the strength with which it is held.

No, the last one is cygnus's patented tone finder : ) You really should buy one : ))

Nice plug for cygnus! That looks pretty high tech. With that setup, I bet I wouldn't even need to plug in to get monster tone. Do you get a cut of the sales revenue or just a flat fee for mentioning his stuff?

No, just helping a bro out. One thing you have to sign a waiver if you live in a windy area.

I have a question about the Model 88s. Does the slanted P/U do anything for the tone/sound or is it just cosmetic?

You'll get a little warmer bass definition on the lower strings since the pup is closer to the neck on that side.

I used to own s/n 0004, that thing was absolutely mint, and for a reason. It looked amazing and played beautifully, but was tonally dead. One of the few Charvel's I don't regret selling (nor have I attempted to buy back!).

Good info surf, and it adds to Lawson's opinion.
Now I'm starting to wonder if there were significant variations in the
                                density of that mahogany.

I have seen a lot of variations in the grain patterns.
