  • New Model 2 is safe at home!

Well, I picked it up today. Overall it's in pretty good shape for a 20+ year old guitar that has somehow lost it's HSC. Man I never understand what people do with these original HSC, I still have mine for my 90 375 DX? Oh well, back to the model #2. Reason I wanted one is I purchased a new model 3 in the electric blue back in mid 1988, $375 out the door with the HSC, I kept it for 11 months and sold it to get a Fender HM Strat because it said Fender. Oh what a horrible mistake that was. I found a used model 2 in black with loaded with an EMG and went with that for about a year since I could not find any new Charvels. Well 1990 rolls along and I picked up a new metallic black 375dx with case for $450 out the door, still have it today : )

Well I always wanted a model series again, but I did not want a #3 because my 375 has a SSH config, Two weeks ago I picked up a 1989 Charvel 750XL locally so now I had the holy grail Charvel, Still looking for a electric blue # 2, saw some on-line but not in the condition I wanted. Well one came up on the "bay" and the seller lives 15 miles from me.

    So here she is:

Sorry the pics are a little dark.

There are no dents, the headstock point is perfect, the top near perfect, there are some very light picking marks, and few hairline scratches on the surface of the clear that you can only see in the right light and at the correct angle. There is some very light buckle scuffs, in the clear only, no wood damage or color damage, I may have these color sanded an buffed out, you can only see them with the right lighting conditions, the size of a silver dollar, just above the trem cover.

The strings looked 20 years old!! The bridge is in great shape, the frets wear in minimal, but they could use to be polished. I just need to get a trem arm for the JT-6 trem and find a case. What are people doing with the original cases??? I will post better photos later.

All for the $305. It plays awesome as expected!

This will not fit in my Model 375 case? The body is too big. Oh the HSC saga continues.

I think the 86-91 imported Charvels are some of the best playing guitars ever. I just don't think you could beat them then or now for quality, sound, and playability. I love Charvels and Jacksons, and I have a few Gibson LPs and a PRS SC250 that I can compare to. I can't wait to pay the new US Jackson SL2H MAH I just got!

What year is your model 4?

Oops, sometimes I hate myself for doing such a good job cleaning. So I am polishing the new model 2 after a full set up, etc, etc. I turn it over to take off the input jack to clean and see the reason why I hate soft cases. Appears my new pride and joy was dropped at some point and took the blow on the input jack which was deformed a bit and crushed into the body just a tad. It's not noticeable unless it was pointed out to you, heck I have been working on the guitar for 3 hours and just noticed it.

Oh this sucks, why can't people just really look their stuff over before selling on the "Bay". When you are told no chips, dents, scratches before bidding, that kind of what I expect, I might have passed on this on had I see this.

Its a 1986 it Has the Dots on the Neck not the Fancy Fins I sprayed
some Radio Shack Tuner cleaner to Fix the Noise in the Pots and all
it did was Freeze them where I can't turn them. I ordered some 20K
pots to wire them in I hoping to salvage the Active Elextronic on the
pot by using wire to Jumper it in. Wish me Luck and if it works I'll
Tell everybody how I did it -- Charles

I will try and post some more photos, tonight. I can't seem to get a good one of the input jack. It's sounds a lot worse than it actually is,the damage is on the lower side of the jack plate, you can't tell it's there unless you really take the jack plate off. It basically indented the body in the shape of the plate about 1/32" or less on one side, there are some hairline razor thin cracks in the clear, but you can't see them unless you are in bright light and they can't be felt with my fingernail either. It does not detract from the guitar as you would never notice it unless you took the jack plate off, oh well, still a good deal?

                Yes indeed.
And should do nothing but go up up up in value.
                I say good score!

Yikes! I have two Fender HMs and love em. Never played a Charvel model series...but they must be pretty kickin' if they beat an HM. I can see weak sides to the HM, and I can imagine how good a guitar would have to be to beat one.

No insult intended on the HM Strat, I just did not care for the neck or the wider spacing of the strings. It was a solid guitar just not for me.

I know what you mean, the string are wide, and the neck has a weird feeling initially. It took me about 3 months to get used to it, and it will take a lot longer to be really comfortable with it. Got it in September 2007.

Anway, you've a really nice looking Charvel. I am sure it will bring you joy.

Hey I spoke with the seller about the hidden damage and he is being cool about it. He asked if I wanted a refund for it or we will try to work out a price. Based on what I have explained above what do you guys think? I don't want to grind him either, but I doubt I would have bid $305 knowing about the jack plate. How much do you think it impacts the value of the model #2?

I think free shipping would be a cool gesture.
                          what was that... 35?

Honestly, unless that damage bothers that much, I would let it go. It is a 20 year old Model 2. Not exactly a rare and expessive hard to find guitar. No real collector value in the Model Series.

Looking at the close up picture, you can't see any damage wrapping around to the face of the guitar. Overall it is a very clean guitar, plus as you said you didn't have to pay any shipping. Personally I would be pleased with the condition of that guitar. Just my opinion.
