Model 1a?

I was just in Costa Rica and I went to a guitar store in a mall. They had a Japanese Charvel hanging up high. It was a black strat, v-trem, 3 singles, with a maple/maple neck and looked to be in excellent condition. I forgot most of those 86/87 model numbers, but I think it is a 1a...I am sure one of you will know. I had my friend (a local) as they guy how much. He said it wasn't for sale, but didn't explain why. It was hanging with a bunch of autographed guitars so maybe it was autographed on the back or perhaps owned by someone famous. I was kind of excited thinking I might pick it up for cheap, but no dice.
