I see where you've found the "Special" name in the ad, but honestly, those are dinky bodies, early versions of what is to be the 475DLX. The only model that was strat sized in the Contemporary Series ("Classic Series" is what they call them in the ad) was the early 275DLX. (like in the ad, you can visually tell the difference between the two - I'm guessing about 90 or so, they went to the dinky body and started using the crap hardware for 'em.)

Now as far as the size of your gold/black crackle that's obviously one of the early Dinkies. It could be that the early Dinkies weren't held to the 7/8 size rule and just had thinner horns. But even the Model 3DR is different than what is commonly known as the Dinky. (3DR is the very first Dinky body) Growing pains, I guess.

That's the site you were talking about:

          www.charvel-jackson.info/ (and the corresponding thread: http://www.jcfonline.com/forums/show...identification )

The 475-Special only appears in the '89 catalog and is described as the "custom"-version of the 375 Deluxe:

and it's pretty common to have a finish like your black/gold crackle that is not listed in the spec-sheet.

          Maybe Japan only ?
There's a Jackson Soloist in the Japan-only Jackson ad of 1989 with black/silver crackle. Very cool finish !!!
