  • New Guitar Day!

Received my first Charvel today - What I'm fairly sure is a 1988 Model 8

It's been "modded" by the previous owner (or owners...), no pickguard, added Gibson humbucker (the routing job is horrific) and an extra toggle switch (looking inside, it looks like a killswitch).

It needs a good setup, new string pads for the nut, a pickguard if I can get one, a new trem arm, and some wood filler in the bridge pickup route (so I can screw the pickup ring down properly), but it should be very nice when I'm done fixing it up. I'm a bit disappointed with the condition it's in, I doubt I'll be able to sell it for much, but now I have an excuse to keep it!

Only grainy phone pictures I'm afraid, but it's better than nothing:

    Why so serious?

^ They're very similar, but I think mine is a Model 8 (I think they're fairly rare, I had to do a lot of digging through old threads on here to even find out they existed) due to the older Guitar style logo, and I think the trem is different too. I wouldn't mind a Spectrum to sit next to this one, though

May as well as in here, to save making another thread - Does anyone know where I can get the replacement parts I need for the trem? I'm pretty sure it's missing the string blocks (no idea if that's the right word for them), and I need new parts for the nut (I don't know the technical term for those bits either), and like I said before a new trem arm. I'll snap a picture of the bridge to show you what's missing:

Wow, Holy brain fart batman! I really thought I saw the toothpaste logo on there. I guess after reading that other thread, I had toothpaste on the brain. Yes, as others have stated, model 8. No more posting before 10 am for me.

^ Yep. I think they were only made for the one year, they were the precursor to the Spectrums.

Very nice, and I wouldn't ever if at all possible put it up for sale.
If it plays as good as it looks you definitely have a keeper.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Yes, there's a bee in the pudding.

It's MIJ, like the rest of the model series (which are, well, all great). The main reason why it's so great is that they were only made for a year, so they're pretty rare.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I almost didn't get the guitar at all! Ran into lots of problems with the seller (mainly him not sending the guitar or replying to any of my emails after I'd sent the money!). It's going to take me a while to get this guitar up and running but I'm sure it'll be worth it once I do, the neck feels great in my hand

I'm thinking of just scrapping the JT6 and putting an OFR in (I'll probably pay a tech to do it, I don't trust myself with that kind of thing ) as it's got parts missing, is 20 years old and from what I hear isn't a very good trem anyway.

Does anyone know if OFR string lock blocks would fit the JT6? These thingies:

I'm thinking if I can get a set of 6 for 3 quid, the string pads for the nut won't be too expensive, and I can try and make the JT6 usable before I get rid of it for an OFR.
