    Back in the Saddle again!

    Hey guys,

    I've been Jackson/Charvel-less for a while now, but no more!

    Yesterday I found a beauty of a Model 5 and the local Long & McQuade.

    I never bonded with the 750XL or the USA Rhoadses I had, but here's to hoping that this Model 5 is a keeper!

    Totally Original, with all the case candy and the Chainsaw case with all latches intact!

    Why does every non-Saskatoon L&M actually get used stuff. There's literally no used guitars here. Lucky!

      You had a 750XL? Did you sell? I have to say I have one, and it took some getting used to... (Archtop, 24.75 scale, non recess trem). I played it a lot and now it lives in a case. Mainly cause I don't want to damage it, and mainly cause I have gone back to other superstrats that are more stratlike.

      But that 5 sure looks the business...how about some clips or videos? !

        I couldn't get the 750 I had to sound right. I have numerous pickups in it and it was a constant fight. It also needed a new Floyd and I didn't get along with it enough to want to invest the money.

        I'll see if I can get my recording rig working to get a clip together.

              I'm just thinking about how well an Ibanez Edge trem would fit and work... I have one with a 41mm block that would probably just drop right in...

                I know what you mean about pickups. Seems for me everything is too bright. That darn maple cap.

                Anyhow, love to hear it in action. For now though, great score, that neck thru must sound great.

                  It's funny... I'm not that impressed with the tone. It's thick and powerful, but has no character at all. Normally I'm quick to do pickup swaps but with the fancy switching that I've never been able to replicate with any other brand of pickup in this guitar I don't really want to do it...

                  Any suggestions for keeping it in tune? the lock-behind-the-nut arrangement is dubious... I'll probably have to lube it up somehow.

                    Interesting...! Well, my 6 and 2 have the behind nut lock. The 6 stays in tune fine, no lube-ing required on anything. I'm thinking lubrication would defeat the object of the behind-lock-nut though, right?

                      sometimes the locking blocks get gooved, or too shiny and they don't effectively clamp anymore (take apart and sand them/rough them up in a direction that crosses the strings and helps grab)

                      also

                      sometimes the angle of the strings going from the nut to the tuner is wrong, and you need to convince the string to stay on the locking block itself when you tighten it (mostly the two or three smallest diameter strings)

                      easy to test for either condition by pushing on the string between the locking thing and the tuner... does it ping?

                      do those to things, and they seem to work just fine.

                        Thanks for the suggestions. I took the guitar out to band practice a few times so that I could get a feel at high/performance volume and I just didn't get along with it. Lacks the snap and razor-like cut that my RG750s have.

                        So it got the boot. Took it back to the store for a refund.

                        I think I need to wait it out and find the Model 7 that I want and HotRail it...
