  • odd pick up cover question

can anyone identify what model charvel this pick up cover goes to ?

it is an oversize cover with embossed logo ,so late '86 to early '89, but the
pointy headstock logo with usa throws me off..

    import model ?
    just curious...

Looks like the USA is only on the clear piece of protective plastic, not the pup cover itself. Ive never seen one with w USA on it.
Imagine, being able to be magically whisked away to... Delaware. Hi... Im in... Delaware...

It appears that way to me also.

no, the "USA" is actually a part of the cover same as the logo.

          Is it a vinyl decal?
Maybe someone made stencil and air brushed it on?
If in fact it is painted on and looks good that would be sweet whether it's factory or not.
Is it a Custom shop item perhaps?

I hate to pull the protective plastic off... but here you go.

I've never seen this cover on any c/j guitar...
when I bought the last of the oversized jackson embossed covers and rings from jackson a few years ago as the buyout was happening
I got this pair of weird charvel covers thrown in the box with them.

I had a pair of white ones with the same logo , logo painted NOT molded , they were also NOT the oversized cover as these, and were the smaller cover same as the active pickups line.

            any ideas?

Well the new photo that you posted gives the impression to me that it's real. I dont see anyone even with the proper tooling to go through the time and effort to craft one of those.

I'm guessing that it's a C/S piece of some sort? Or possibly a prototype that was never put into production?
I'm really not sure bro, maybe someone here can tell you?

well that would seem to make sense it being a proto because at the end of the amic run, I got all kinds of things that never made production from jackson...

there was a tuner that was built into a standard sized pickup ring and host of other things that are long gone.

I probably should have kept the tuner thingy .

Did you work for J/C or something?

no I wish... just got my foot in the door back in the day and was able to buy direct and get some interesting things.
the tuner came from the manager before kevin e. took over in ft. worth.

I seem to remember seeing that pickup cover (with USA) on a charvette that someone was selling on Ebay. I thought it was odd at the time and tried to find it on the catalog scans but couldn't find a match.

I have seen those before. I am pretty sure they were not installed on Charvels but sold as aftermarket pickups. Indeed they are USA made in the Jackson Ontario plant, wound in house.

I stand by my original post. Charvette. I hope I don't violate any rules but here's a charvette on evil bay with that pickup cover. http://cgi.ebay.com/charvette-big-ha...1%7C240%3A1318
