hi guys. Im thinking of doing a project and have seen a model 3 body and was wondering what neck dimensions would fit it (thinking of a strat head - Gary Moore charvel project).
Are you looking for the specs that gary moore had or do you what to copy another neck you like?
I should have a neck from mojo neck week that I had made to the charvel standard pointy specs but a strathead since I like that profile. The new charvels have thicker necks.
If i knew the specs of gary's charvels I'd be happy!
would it be easier to go to warmouth/musikraft and get a body/neck done and then go from there? or is it possible to use a 'model' body and get the neck made custom?
If i knew the specs of gary's charvels I'd be happy!
I tried to find the specs but I couldn't I am sure someone else can help with that.
A model body is fine as long as you like basswood and are willing to wait for the neck to be done. It's going to be a lot cheaper too.
Unless Gary had the really old ones where they didn't have a compound radius fretboard I would use these specs since most say their new charvel customs have it:
1 11/16 nut, thin D, 12-16 radius. Also get qtrsawn and an oil finish unless you are getting birdseye.
Ok cool thanks Rich. I'll first off see how my eBay watch goes on the model 3 body. In case I dont win that one, I've noticed not all 3's come with scratchplates. Is there a particular variet of 3's that did?
The '86 Model 3 with the Kahler fulcrum trem had the pickguard. If you want a floyd on the guitar, you'll want an '87 or '88 Model 3 (no pickguard) that came with the JT-6 trem.
You can use a 2-3/16" standard neck heel on your Model 3 body which has a 2-1/4" heel as stated. The neck pocket is wider, so you'd have to shim the sides by glueing in thin strips of wood and then finish sanding to provide a firm fit.
Don't let that deter you from buying the body, or by only using a Charvel neck or a custom neck.
edit: I remember glueing in thin strips of business cards on the sides of the neck pocket instead of wood strips. Anything to take the out the slack is ok in my opinion.
Probably one of the best solo's by Gary Moore I heard; this is clearly Gary on his heights. Heading to 1 million visitors of this video! UPDATE: today the sa...
Simply amazing. And to think - he sold that for charity for a measily 500 odd GBP. Did no-one tell him I'm a charity!!!
and also - does that mean if I get a body that has the posts drilled for a kahler a floyd or JT580 or JT-6 wont fit it? <- sorry if thats a dumbass question.
