Kahlers won't fit a floyd. The fulcrum trem sucks but it has the same spacing as a kahler killer-great trem. The jt6 has the same spacing a a floyd. If you put a floyd on a guitar you might want to change the posts. The jt580 will need to have a longer block. they come with 32mm or 37mm and you will need a 42mm for non recessed trems.

would putting a floyd or JT6 on mean dowelling the current holes and drilling new ones?

Yes. The Kahler Fulcrum post spacing is much narrower than floyd post spacing.

hmm. now I have some decision making. Would it be easier to do a model 2 - and im assuming the model 2 has the same neck specs as the 3?

yes, Just not an 86, same kahler fulcrum trem. If I were you I would get a model 2 or 3 from 87-88 and drop a pickguard on it.

would a strat pickguard fit - i.e wouldnt the volume pot stem be too short?

you might have to get the longshaft pots made for archtop/LPs

I'm pretty sure the model 3 is not basswood it is rather heavy compared to my ibanez which is made of basswood.

or a Charvel Body..lol Actually, He has mostly used a Gibby, or the one white Jackson w/ one hum in it, or a Fender strat..for the Blues, I'll take my SRV strat over any of my guitars..

Charvel model series are made from good basswood so they're heavier
