  • Charvel Model 4

Someone here is selling his model 4 and since i don't know much about Charvels, can you please help me? I want to know some info about model. Is that profesional guitar (was it used on some pro records? )? Can it be compared with USA Jacksons?

    Real nice fiddles.
Plenty of info here on Model 4's.
Mid-boost Jackson electronics, Shark-tooth inlays, JT-6 trems (except for 1986, the first year... they where m.o.p. dots, and Kahler trems).
Three on/off switches to control pickup on/off.
    Killer little axes.
Check the catalog scans, and do a search.
Those who have them, love them.
Prices range from 275 to 450 or so, depending on color/condition/GAS levels.
Generally, you'll have owners with USA Jacksons/Charvels, as well as import Charvels, so they must have some good qualities!

This one is white with JT-6 trem. And original Charvel hardcase. Prise is hight, because it is in europe. But price is not so much of a issue. I realised that i don't want to buy cheap and shity guitars, because i end up selling them, so i want to buy good sounding guitar so i can record with it. I heard a lot of nice stuff about charvel, but from price point of view they seem like begginers guitar (i could be wrong....i know zero about charvels ). Don't get me wrong.....i like when good instruments are cheap .....but that rarely hapens..usualy there is cach

Well, rejoice, because these are great deal guitars. I've owned several Model 4s (Thanks, again, Spike ), as well as Model 6s, and have loved them all. If it's in good shape, get it. You won't regret it.

So glad you are still diggin' it man!
You are correct, it's really tough to beat one of these... and after you own one, even tougher to replace!

also wondering if there greatness is because of the mid boost and actives or if they are less desired if someone had replaced the wiring and pickups to passives

I got a PAF Pro in the bridge of my mod4 and it sounds pretty good, with the single in the neck its pretty versatile

Some love em some don't . the pickups are passive though. Ther battery is only for the mid boost. the bridge pickup sounds great but is a little weak. the singles are OK.
These are great guitar though. I have had my 86 model 6 since 88. Will never sell it. These guitars are just as good as many american made guitars. then for the price being so much lower you can't beat them. Lets keep this our little secret.

I've had my '87 model 4 since early '88 from new, and after the family, it'll be the first thing I grab if there's a fire .. I've beat it up, abused it, loved it and hated it, and just keeps on coming back for more and staying in tune .. allowing for inflation, it'd be about £1,200 ( US$1,800 ) new today, and IMHO, that's how good it is
buy it, play it, you won't regret it

Hey folks, I'm new here and have a questioned maybe some of you could answer.
Can someone give me the neck thickness on the Model 4 (Kahler 2300 model from 86') at the first and 12th fret?
I'd really appreciate it. Also I'm curious if the Model 6 has the same dimensions-
                    Thanks guys!
