  • My First Charvel

I recently bought my first Charvel. It is used and came w/a (not sure if it's the) Charvel case. Been peeking at several for a couple years now and decided which one I wanted to try out first. I had played a handful here and there and each had something interesting to offer. Most played very well but of those that I played, none really rocked my world, feature wise.

I wanted 24 frets, a Floyd, a bolt-on neck (i'm done w/neck-throughs), a hummer in the bridge and at least one single. Also wanted a lightweight. That's a tall order but I finally found it and pounced all over it. Though I prolly paid too much for it, it's almost perfect. AFAIK it is all stock except for the new DR tite fit 9-42 strings I just dropped in it.

I scored a Model A Plus and I absolutely love it. I can't put the damn thing down long enough to shoot decent pics. But yes, I WILL post some up very soon. Because as they say on this forum, no pics = it never happened.

Only one unaswerable question....... Why did I wait so friggin long to jump one of these?

EDIT: Porn Added. Sorry for the blurry pics. Too much coffee?

These get bashed because of the headstock, but I agree these are awesome guitars. I have had four of these and loved them all. I still have a red quilt model A.

I know people like what they like. And that's fine. I like the pointy Jackson and Charvel headstocks quite a bit. I have owned and do own a couple (jacksons). But there is something to be said for the traditional look too.

Classic looks, maple bolt-on w/ebony board, 24 jumbo frets, LFR, black hardware, mahogany body, quilted natural maple top, s/s/h w/real Seymour Duncans (cream color), Charvel quality and playability. What's not to like - the shape of the headstock? Oh well. To each their own I suppose. This one is a keeper.

Will load up some pics later today.

8 strings? Because 6 is too easy?

You have too many back slashes in the address of your picture links. By the way, nice natural quilt top! Classy axe!

I don't think that is the case but I've been wrong before. Anyone else having probs viewing the pics? There are eight (i think) total pics. If so, I will recheck. But it looks good from my house.

This is weird!! I can see the pics fine in Firefox, and when I right click the pics & check Properties, the address is correct with 2 forward slashes (http://mysite...), but in IE the pics don't show up, and all the addresses have 3 forward slashes like Razor says. Maybe Firefox auto-corrects it or something?

I am with rich#6 on these guitars. They are very underrated. The headstock has always looked cool to me for some reason. I think that guitar will go up in price considerably because there wasn't that many of them made. It probably has the takeuchi trem also.

Problem solved. First problem was a format issue with how one inserts their pic links. I opted to backspace out the "http://" that auto appears in the pic link box and paste the enire addy. That seems to cause the extra slash. Took me a few to figure that one out.

After I redid the links IE had the last three pics rowed end to end horizontally but it showed correctly in the preview box. It looked fine both ways in FireFox though. I ended up placing an extra space between the last three pics to solve the problem. Anyhooo, it was a format error on my part to begin with. And DG nailed it. FireFox auto corrected the extra slash.

I kinda feel like this guit might go up in value too, someday. It is unique for an import Charvel. But I don't see myself parting w/it. I don't fall in lust w/many guits. This one is a definite exception. And even though I'm pretty sure I overpaid a bit for it, I've paid 2 and 3 times more for guits I ditched in a reasonably short time frame. I'm very happy w/it and feel like I landed the biggest fish on my first fishing trip. Maybe I'll opt for a Model 4 or similar to keep it company.

I can see it now. Agreed, these were very underated. Very nice fiddle and I never really cared about the headstock shape. It's all about how it plays (imo).

Close. BIN was $535. Ship was $40. Total was $565. I used Live Search to get 25% off which I can claim in 30 days (somehow they deducted 10 bux). Final total will be $433.75 delivered w/case. Under $450 w/a case is a decent deal me thinks

It was in overall used, not abused and in good condition, as described. It did have some issues. All turned out to be minor in my opinion. I had it a day before I pulled the strings, pulled the neck and the FR to clean and check over. It was sorta grubby, it has 2 pots that need replacing, had one of the pickup wires that needed to be resoldered, and it has a high fret or two somewhere past the 12th. Has a finish crack at the neck pocket so I checked it out. Only a paint thing. I just cleaned it all up, soldered the pup wire, had a fresh set of DR Tite Fit 09-42's slapped on it, setup the truss and FR and have been playing it since. I'll address the other minor issues if I can put it down long enough.
