Thanks to all for your gracious comments. I can't claim the credit for the paintwork, I just put it together....but I'm damn proud of it all the same.

Talk to us about the 1 Meg Ohm pot thing.
What's the logic, and the real-world effect of that change?

            Very nice axe!

It's fun to build 'em up, isn't it?

Thanks for noting where the brass OFR block can be obtained, too. Looks like an informative site.

              Spike,

This might get bumped to Tech Q and A, but what the heck!

We've all read the discussions about changing volume pots for different tonal characteristics. As you go higher in ohm value, you let a wider frequency range of tone out of the guitar. 250ohm pots usually pair up with single coils to keep them from sounding too bright. Humbuckers have a darker tone, so they're typically paired with 500ohm pots to keep the tone from getting too dark. The 1000ohm (1meg) pot lets out higher frequencies yet. Some people describe it as "the pup running wide open".

For this guitar it's a great choice because the basswood body keeps things from sounding too bright. To me it adds presence to the tone...like when you really dig in with the pick. Great pinch harmonics, grind and lively immediate feel. It reminds me of Edward's tone on VH1. It just sounds like it's screaming...like the amp's dimed and dripping with that mystical warm tube magic that so many of us crave. Oi vey! I'm getting a little verklempt...talk amongst yourselves!

I'm sure someone else can better describe what happens technically with different pots...I'll just say that I haven't put this guitar down since it's been assembled.

And... no, I haven't swapped between different pots on the guitar for comparison purposes! Sorry. But I may try the same thing with my KV2. I'll keep you posted.

              Hope that helps.

Let's not overthink the 250K/500K ohm thing. There is no difference between a 250K ohm pot that's dimed and a 500K pot that's rolled off a bit.

                              +1 I love S'burst Tigers anyway. Next to Eddie's IMHO I think it's the quintessential 80's paintscheme.
Why the hell doesn't Eddie pick up a goddamned guitar and play something?
