  • Yet another stupid question about JT-6 trem

    Here goes.
I was wondering if a JT-6 trem could possibly be retrofitted with an Ibanez Edge trem as opposed to an OFR?

If not what are the reasons for it?

Oh, the reason I am asking in this forum is because the guitar I am thinking of doing it to is my 5FX.

Don't know, but why not an OFR?

Hmm, interesting question, given the space around the knife edges is not "open" like an OFR. I would think the baseplate would get in the way of the posts personally, but I'm sure someone else has tried it and could tell you a bit more.

Told you it was a stupid question....I just like edge trems.

if it fits the posts, throw the Edges on. The trem doesn't care what decal is on the headstock.

I myself have a Model 3 question. I'm not happy with the sustain and plucking feel. The neck feels good, but there's just something missing. Maybe the JT-6 is the weak point and is sucking away the sustain and making the picked notes not have any solid snap? Would a move to a better trem fix this? I feel this guitar is like 20% away from being perfect. The neck is obviously shimmed too, I'm sure that there is not a 100% total neck/pocket contact is hindering the sustain capabilty.

I noticed improved sustain and a bit brighter tone when I replaced the JT-6 with an OFR on my Model 6. The shim may also be playing a role on your Model 3, though. Why is it shimmed? The pockets on the bolt-on (floyded) Model Series should have the angle built into the pocket for the trem to float. Is yours shimmed at the rear of the pocket so the trem can be lowered to rest flat on the body?

mine is shimmed to float. as to what quality the shim is, don't know, have never removed the neck. my DK2M, DK2 and DXMG sustain more that the M3. I am considering going to a flush mount since I don't pull up anyway.
