  • Stringing the Models

I have seen where many guys will string up a Model Charvel (or a 375, 475, etc) and leave the ball-ends on the strings and up by the tuners...I would think the tension from the ball on the tuner may cause damage?

I cut off the balls (ouch) and make a fist at the 5th fret (for slack, get about two winds on each tuner) and string up. I then just spin the string at the tuner and the excess breaks off clean.

    Thoughts?

There are two camps on this.
Those that do it, and those that don't.
The topic has come up before, many times.

I'm from the don't do the ball ends up at the tuners camp.

having the balls at the tuners looks so stupid. I actually bought a guitar where the guy didn't even cut the thin part off the round strings.:ROTF:

I've tried stringing my guitars both ways, and don't see any difference.

I am in your camp. My wire snipper works just fine, thank you.

Leaving the balls on will add mass and sustain to a bolt-on neck.

Oh yeah, it's true, I read on the ESP forum.

I think it looks goofy with the ball ends up there.JMO.I see no difference tone wise.

I guess you could say that some people play with balls, and others don't?
                        hehehe
I guess I play with balls when I use one of my Kahler'd guitars.
But I keep my balls hidden, and in the correct location.
