  • My Model 6

Hi guys, I just picked up my first Charvel. It's an '88 model 6.
I'd like to get it back to its original state. But do any of you know what type of active duncans these are?
The original owner says they were installed about 20 years ago
    (upside down hehe)

Don't know about the pickups, but that is a nice looking axe.

      Very nice looking guitar.

How do those pickups sound? The originals are good, but nothing to write home about. If ya like the Duncans (or whatever they are) play it as is. I have the originals in mine and it is ok but I have been toying with the idea of just ditching the electronics and going with new Duncans.

Thanks for the response guys. I'm starting to wonder if they might be livewires. I really like the humbucker, it sounds mean with a nice low end.
I'm not normally a fan of actives, but If I figure it out I'd love to find another set :]

Very nice crackle on that one. You picked a slick guitar! Welcome to the forum.

Great guitar get rid of that JT6 before you do anything about the pickups.

I'm surprised the guy hadn't already replaced it. It's so bizarre not having the fine tuner screws. Thanks for the help guys

Just an FYI, the JT6 does have fine tuners at the back of the bridge but it's not configured like the Floyd (top of the bridge). I'm not a huge fan of the JT6 for than reason but some people like them because they're more out of the way when playing.

Yep, those six screws at the back are your fine-tuners...a little penetrating oil will make them easier to turn.

I have two JT-6 equipped Model 3s here and have no problems with them at all. Not saying an OFR wouldn't be better, but the JT-6 isn't junk like many would have you believe.

                        Nice axe and welcome!

Ahh :] Learn something new every day. I'm not very experienced with older Charvels/Jacksons. I'll probably keep the JT-6. The profile is a bit more comfortable to me than an OFR. Thanks for the welcome !

I have that same guitar but as a model4, it looks great and plays well. Nothing wrong at all with a properly setup JT-6, oil it up well and it will be fine.

Great looking guitar. You don't see many Crackle model 6 guitars. I would definitely play with the current pups before rushing in to changing them out. You might want to take a look at the wiring just to check if the original active electronics are still in the guitar.
                              Just one more guitar!
