Ya... Agreed. They totally work for what i do. Not that I'm much of a fan of their singles. I have 81's in everything I play live with and disable the single coils haha...

I do like the SD Custom 5 tho.

Haven't found a Dimarzio I really like ever...

      So... EMGs

My model 4 is heavy as a lead pig so I think the EMGs help brighten it up some as well.

I'm sort of in the same position...

This is the first chapter of my comparison between active EMGs and passive Seymour Duncans.------------------------------------------------------------------...

This guy has a lot of interesting videos, compares Floyds to Kahlers, metal guitar comparisons... hope this is helpful.

EMG NOT! If you like the way it sounds then just clean all your pots and change your battery. (which I am sure you have done) If that doesn't help stay passive and add a mid boost pre-amp. I can not suggest one but I am sure other can. I have one that the volume pot life is dying but I keep cleaning to keep it alive. I really like the way it sounds. I but a bunch of EMG in guitars a few years ago and it just wasn't for me. Includhing a Model 4.

well, i play everything from country to rock. and i dont think its my pots on the guitar that are the problem...even with a fresh battery, the mid boost kind of acts funny some times. and it is getting more common. i have been looking at emg's passives anybody play them?

I've got the Hz pups in a stock Epiphone Zakk Wylde Les Paul. I was fully intending to upgrade them to an 81/85 set but too honest for that guitar [bedroom use only] they're ok. I doubt I'd ever put a set in anything else if I could avoid it though.

I've got a dual EMG 81 setup with the 18v mod in a LTD KH-502. Blows the passives away. If you're thinking EMG go with actives [IMHO].

I tried out EMGs in my Kelly and hated them. The 81 is very shrill and the 85 was muddy.

I'd try changing out the pots before getting new pickups, especially if you like the sound of them. Pickups tend not to just "go bad".

i know pickups dont go bad, i was really worried about the sound change if i take the circiutry out (the part i think is bad) i was going to replace the pots anyway...anybody know what pots i need?
