      My 650 was all show

Here's what I wrote on another post:
"I still miss my 650. It was a cool looker guitar. I could never play it very well. It was like a Harley. Awesome to admire and sounded mean but hard to handle in corners and broke everytime I took it out."

To clarify, mine was a cool guitar but just seemed too hard to play. It was like a hot rod Lincoln rather than a nimble Porsche. I upgraded the crap out of it too:
EMGs, all new chrome Shaller h/w, on-off toggle, D-Tuna & blocked trem.
It played mean metal and could down tune and sound thick but I could never get any speed on it. The neck and I didn't get along. The trem was stiff no matter what my guitar guy did for me. It broke strings all of the time - even with brand new trem. It got to the point where bringing it to shows was only for dudes to drool over it. Playing it was a hassle. I gave it to a friend in exchange for electrical work around my house.

I personally wouldn't buy another 650. I just bought a DK2M and it's a fast machine with looks that kill. It was in the price range of my 650 when I bought it - 400.

wow. what the hell are you people talking about. ive owned a 650xl for 20 years. and sinse the day i picked it up,its always been the best guitar i've owned.in fact i liked it so much that i bought another exactly like it last year.now i finally got my hands on a 750xl which is even better.but damn, for me the guitar is awesome.and a lot better than the model6.
toothpaste logo.hell i look for that.its only looks anyway.
stop at full speed at 100 miles per hour. the colgate invisible shield finally got em.

Here's what I don't like about the Toothpasters in general:

          - Dinky bodies - too small for me - I like me some full sized strats.
          - Too much with the fire-crackle - that might have soured me as well
          - Recessed trems - I grew up playing top mounted trems (not true, actually my first real guitar, a Strat had a recessed trem - but I digress)
          - Too much with the sharkies (like them on V's and weird shapes, but maybe not as much on strat syles...)

Things I DO like about the Toothpasties:

          - Strat style switched - no duh - mini switches suck!
          - Floyd nuts - again - no duh
          -------------------------
          Blank yo!
