well, you're fighting Basswood on those where Spikes 1A isn't (am I right spike?). The Lil59, JB Jr. sounds like good ideas but dg is right too. That guiar is about those tone controls.

Love Spectrums. Love them. Keep fooling with it. it's too nice a guitar to give up on.

I think mine is Basswood, or supposed to be... I don't really know how to tell based on the grain or weight.

Even two guitars made from the same tree can sound very different though.

If you use your ear, you'll find something that works.

That's the key.

Does it has a 250k volume pot in it? If it does replace it with a 500k for the humbucker. Also the JB Jr with sound a lot thicker than a hot rails but less output. I have both said pickups in my Iron Maiden Strat and the JB Jr rocks.
