  • Have a couple questions about my model 6

Ok sorry about this kind of repost, but I'm still confused on something, I got this in a trade for some oldschool bmx bike stuff etc. & this is how it came, the body trem routing is I guess made for a kahler trem, but whoever! put this jt-6 trem on it, & I get it. the model 6 came w/these also. confusion comes in when I read, that people switched the kahlers out for orig FR & shaller FR & people say there all interchangable etc. but WTF. it looks crazy on here & this can not be right for this guitar, when I got it this guy had the trem post unscewed like 1/2 way no shit it was up there. not just the ass end but the whole base of the trem was way up there. I took everything apart cleaned everything up etc. did some major adjustments, post down to accecptable height, spring tension adjustment got it in tune etc. no way this can work using the trem arm 1st dive or up something gonna happen, but blocked it seems to stay in tune but looks like shit!!! is this paticular body of the model 6 only compatable w/ the kahler trem?????? If I was going to sell this you came & seen this trem on here what would you think WTF. I'm not selling it, but you know what I mean. Is there any other options for the tremolo?? sorry for the length of this post, I just need this cleared up. I think I know the answer, but!!!! pics are when 1st got it & pic of now.

Only 86 came with the kahler and it's the flat mount kahler(only top routing). That is the correct trem. It's probably just has worn out blades.

It's am 87 so it came with the jt6. someone may have tried to put a kahler on it but it came with that trem.
the Jt6s are interchangable with an OFR. No kahler is. The flat mount kahlers there is no back routing for the springs, the other kahlers( fulcrum, spider and killer) have different post spacings the floyd roses. Only the 86 model 2 and 3s came with the fulcrum. Charvel imports never came with the others.

Look at this pic, my guitar has an outline around the trem pocket by those 2 screw holes, like a kahler trem was mounted there, & when I got it from this guy, he said his uncle removed the kahler, because he needed it for another guitar of his, but that f-head could be lying???

the 2300 is the flat mount kahler that only came on the 86s. Yours is an 87(the first digit on your serial number is the year in the 80's. I have had 2 86 model 6s by the way. the 2300 and the floyd rose are nothing alike.

what ever you like, you can always add more springs or tighten the claw screws.

It looks to me like someone added that trem rout. A model 6 shouldnt have that. Is that rout deep enough to allow a kahler flatmount to go on there? Perhaps they had a kahler flatmount fixed bridge on there. The screw holes look like someone had a flatmount on there. Perhaps they had a spacer plate under the bridge that allowed the kahler to sit flat with just that shallow rout. Are the neck angles the same for the 86 and 87 models? So, in short, it looked like someone didnt like the jt-6 and found a way to mount a kahler without a huge deep rout and shaped it so it would just look like a pullup rout if they decided to go back to a floyd type trem. Plausible?
