see, i hate the prep work, but like shooting stuff. perhaps we should team up! i hear you on the metalflake curse; any mistake, and you have to reshoot the whole thing.

Oh, and then, after you've shot a few guitars with automotive stuff, you start noticing lousy factory paintjobs on cars. talk about orange peel!

Prep is actually the easy part for me.
I hate it, but I dig it too. Something satisfying about getting all the old shit off and seeing the guitar in it's raw state. Like a fresh canvas.
But that's basically where my talent ends.

I had the 5A stripped and the final sanding done in about 10 hours.
Whatever that shit was they used for the pearl finish, it was THICK and didn't want to come off. Wasn't like any poly finish I've ever stripped before. It laughed at sandpaper. I had to use a chemical stripper to soften it and then a putty knife and a cabinet scrapper to get through it.

Prep work? What's that? I took the candy apple red off an old Kramer I had with a heat gun and a chisel.

It turned out about as expected...

Man, you've got that right. I was the service manager of a Nissan dealership for two and a half years. We'd unload them off the truck, and laugh our asses off on how they had orange peel from hell in them very consistently.

Dang, one day before my Learn Zombie custom arrives. Then again, you're closer to Colorado than I am. Can't wait to see yours.

Yea... I could drive to Denver in a day, or fly and be there in an hour or two.
Too bad Mike wasn't still here in the Phoenix area... I could have went and picked it up straight from the shop.

Can't say I blame him for moving though... it was already 107 the other day and 106 yesterday.

Is it weird that I'm so excited to see this thing in its finished state? It's not mine and I won't ever get to play it but something about that paintjob and seeing it from the beginning makes me crazy to see it finished so I can drool on the computer screen. Probably my OCD/ADHD acting up again.

I may have to do the tortuous unpacking pictures with random close ups of various parts. I could drag it out for days.

We'll see how I feel after I get it.
