  • help with my model 3dr

hey, recently i purchased a 3dr in white, the ones with the hum and a slated single at the bridge, it came with a dimarzio paf pro in the bridge and only cost £100 cause the head was snapped, so ive been after a neck for it, but im not sure what will fit it well
ive noticed the comes away from then body at a weird angle, not at all like my model 2.
but anyway its a reversed head and looks awesome, so im after a reversed neck really, but it seems near impossible to get hold of one of these necks, so i'll settle for anything that fits really, but what'll fit?
its 22 frets. will any charvel model series neck fit with 22 frets?
    peace
    -John

I believe anymodel series with a bolt on neck and 22 frets will work. I;m sure if i'm wrong someone will jump forward and say so. A neck from a Fusion will not work. Good luck hunting one down.
    It's pronounced soops

toothpaste logo 22 fret neck will do! the pocket angle on the older models is not the same. yea you could shim one,but if you are like me you would always be think oh its shimmed. predator neck would work, and it is revs also. try and stay away from jackson 22 fret angle is not the same and the butt is not either[but if you want to do the work of shimmig maybe grinding go for it!

        thanks guys
im probably gonna end up buying a whole new charvel model series just for the neck, and maybe sell off the body, as it seems to be impossible to get a neck alone
i got real pissed earlier when i seen "charvel reversed neck" on ebay for cheap, then on closer inspection it was a charvette neck, what kind of cruel beast does such a thing!

as for shimming, you should see the size of the shim i put in my model 2!! the strat bridge was replaced with a jt-6 which required the whole neck to be raised, plays awesome though. i'd much prefer an OFR but with it not being routed i thought whats the point, although i would like to get an OFR for the 3dr once i get the neck sorted. on that note has anybody fitted an OFR to a model series with sucess? obviously somebody must have, i'd just like to hear how it went!
        peace

Im pretty sure any 22 fret 25.5 scale Charvel, Jackson, or Charvette Import neck will fit your body. The heels are all flat, the neck angle is taken care of by how the neck pocket on the body is carved.(There are a few rare exceptions to this rule but Ive not come across any) I have a model 3 body with a toothpaste logo neck on it as well as one with a Jackson RR neck on it. Both fit perfectly. And actually, that Charvette neck is probably the best part of that guitar. Charvette necks are nice, just like a model series neck. Just change the logo and nobody will be able to tell the horror. You may run into the thin vs. thick neck bolt situation but thats not a big deal.

those Charvette necks aren't bad. They cheaped out on the body woods (in most cases) and the hardware, but the necks can be pretty good.

You replaced the "strat bridge" on your Model 2 with a JT-6, or it was like that when you got it? If it came with a trad trem, it's actually a Model 1, not 2

if you've gone from a trad trem to a JT-6, I can see why you'd need to shim the neck. The neck pockets on Charvels that came with a JT-6 have been cut to account for the increased angled required for the locking trem.

There are a lot of examples on the JCF of folks putting different Floyds on their Models. I have a Gotoh Floyd on my Model 2. Just make sure you get one with the 42mm block - the shorter blocks are for guitars with recessed trems.

well I just put an rr3 on a pred body and it fit, but not good. old models are not as wide as a toothpaste logo. they got thinner and wider with the logo change. But the charvette is a good neck,I have owned two that bodies were solid wood, one was24.3/4 scale. Wish I had never sold it!

yikes, ive only played a couple of charvettes but i could safely say each one i tried felt so cheap and nasty, i just assumed they all were really!
may consider getting that charvette neck, although ive just made a sale on my rg550ltd dy so i may use that money to get something better if i can.

as for the trem issue, maybe it was a model 1 :/ i got it from ebay around 2 years ago, it was pratically MINT! best condition fretboard ive seen on a charvel for a long time, but anyway.. i was given a strat type trem with the guitar, and i noticed the 6 holes in the body where it had been before the jt-6. infact heres an idea.. i'll just take some pictures of it!

Well if you do go down that route, let me know if you have a model series body for sale.
You could always get a Mighty Mite neck. I have a reverse pointy MM neck on a model 4 body that fits great.

The Model Series necks fit well on Charvette bodies. (and the reverse is true) I've converted some Charvette Model 188 bodies (solid wood) over to Floyds and put Model Series necks on them. (Hum / Slanted Single / WB-2 tremolo / vol-tone / Toggle switch) the ones where I actually had the Charvette neck, the necks were just as good as the model series necks.

I changed the necks because I prefer maple fretboards.
