  • 650XL? (photos inside)

Hey all, I am new the forum. I am about to buy this charvel and was hoping to get some help to figure out what model it is. I orginally thought it was a 650XL, but I could be wrong.

Here is what I know, humbucker at the bridge, single coil on the neck. It is neck through. I believe it is an 88 or 89. Toothpaste logo. Take a look at the pics and let me know. Thanks everyone.

            (explaining to the blind)

It's a 550XL, rosewood with dots, not binding.

            Bright silver sparkle paint job.

600USD is too high in the US IMO. I'd say in the $450 area.

Thats not some sort of fusion? The pup config looks sort of squished together like a fusion.

My first instinct was fusion - but if its neck through, then its 550. Its probably jus tthe 24 frets that make it cramped looking.

                $600 sounds way high. I'm thinking $350 - $400 max.

Definitely a Fusion. The pickup config and the neck screams Fusion. Great guitar but not worth 600 bucks. It also has the Les Paul scale.
                    It's pronounced soops

It's easy to mistake a 550 for a Fusion if you only have a front pic and it isn't described as a neckthrough, but there are differences you can look for.

Have a look at the 550XL in this catalog scan:

                      Here are the Fusions:

The Fusion Custom was the only one with matching headstock, and it had an HSS pickup layout. The H-S models had a black headstock. Another thing that's a little harder to see in the scans: 550XL has a non-recessed trem with a pullup route (like the guitar pictured in this thread), and Fusions have fully recessed trems.

I am 100% certain that the guitar shown is NOT a 650XL. I own a 650XL which has binding around the neck and headstock, along with mother of pearl sharkfin inlays
                        1989 Charvel 650XL, ADA MP-1, Lexicon MX200, BBE 362NR Sonic Maximizer, Marshall EL-34 50/50, Marshall Mode Four MF400A
