Good price for what I think is a Model 5a?

Hey guys, I found a Charvel Model 5a at my local music store, 24 dot inlaid frets, cream colour, sleek neck through design, single Jackson humbucking bridge pup, and the Jackson Tremolo I currently do not know the full name of. The guy says he wants $500 for it, which includes a chainsaw case. The guitar is in pristine, and when I say pristine, I mean it's almost as good as when it came out of the factory. Is this a good price for it? I'll try to get pics tomorow.

Also the trem is a little weird, messed up. It feels A LOT weirder then my Model 4, and every other trem I've used. I'll try to get more info tomoorw.

That might be a little high but I'm not really that in touch with prices anymore. They are very good guitars I have a 5Fx and 550xl both good guitars but i think the JT6 are bad I much prefer the Schaller to the JT6.

Oh ya, I definately plan on swapping it, plus I wonder if I could maybe get a full recessed trem inserted?

$500 for a cherry Model 5A plus a working chainsaw case is a good deal...I bought mine in "high mileage" condition for $250, but it still needs a LOT of work...see if you can get him down to $400, and settle at $450...

The neck angle is too steep for a recessed trem.
You could have a pull up route added behind the trem, but a full recess would be pointless.
$500 is fine IF it's in pristine condition.

It's like a cream white.

Oh Well I'd probably replace it then with another non recessed trem. Also I'll get pics to show it's condition soon.

You could put an OFR on there without any issue.
If you go with an OFR, you will need one with a 42MM block.
They are pretty hard to find with the 42mm block, but you can order a genuine replacement block from here for $20. http://www.guitarpartsdepot.com/prod...45&group=18828

You need a longer block for a non-recessed trem.
You will not be able to attach the trem springs of the block is too short.

I put a Schaller on my model 6. $500 for a model 6 is a good price now. Put a Jackson or Charvel logoed schaller floyd on it. They can be had for cheap on Ebay or buy one off a fellow JCFer. A OFR sustain block will fit on it. You will need to set it up afterwards because the distance for the springs is different on the OFR and schaller made trems.

The pickups had been upgraded to a Dimarzio Evolution in the bridge and a Duncan in the neck. It also came with an OFR. It was a fire crackel finish and overall was in good to very good condition with some small dings here and there and in need of a good cleanup. Frets were pretty good condition, but showed wear.

I think $500 for a pristine 5A is worth it. Especially if you like the single hum neck through format. It seems that's a hard to find combo these days.

If it has a JT-6 ... those are really not all that bad ... just a little funky to deal with if you are used to real Floyds. But a OFR would make a nice upgrade.

Nah I'm used to the Jackson Trems, I have a Charvel with an old one like that, and a Rhoads with some sort of Jackson trem.
